I wrote to Skinners to get some free samples of their Field and Trial puppy food. There's nothing wrong with what Tess is on at the moment - Royal Canin seems to agree with her - but it is pricey and have read quite a few recommendations for the Skinners, which is cheaper...so.... Very Happy

Skinners very kindly sent me 300g of their F&T puppy kibble, and Tess has had a little bit as "treats", unmoistened from the bag, and seems to love it just as much as her usual food. 300g is just over what Tess should have daily so there's enough for a day plus a handful or so left over.

What I was wondering was - should I give her a day on Skinners and see how it affects? Or one meal? Or should I give her a mix of the two foods for a day?

Or doesn't it really matter? Laughing

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You should really introduce it gradually, say 3/4 old 1/4 new for a couple of days then 1/2 and 1/2 then 1/4 and 3/4 then all new.

Are we talking about a switch here or just using the sample bag? (which is how I read it)

Really, I would only see the sample size as sufficient to test whether your dog will eat it - I am not sure you can really gauge that just from giving a few as treats - I know some of mine will eat anything like that - put it in a bowl and they turn their nose up at it - maybe use it over two meals with your current food.

If it goes, then make the decision on what you are going to feed and if you are changing, switch over a few days (although I don't tend to practice what I preach on that one Embarassed although it is the most sensible way to do it Wink )

Ohhh it's just the sample bag, Sue, yes!

Thanks for that. I'll mix it in and see if she'll take it moistened then. Planning to do this tomorrow - today was a bit full on to be dealing with any new stuff (ow, puppy bitemarks Laughing )
