Every month we nominate a very special lab to receive our ''Lab of the Month'' award. This month, the award goes to a lovely lab called Bear. Here, his owner Lisa tells us why he is so very special to her & her husband.
Lisa writes:
Why Bear, our Chocolate Lab deserves Lab of the Month....
"Bear is a special part of our family. My husband, David, has a lung disease called Sarcoidosis. This debilitating disease requires David to take a pharmacy of medications each and every day, including Methotrexate. Because of the medicines David is required to take his immune system is lower than the normal persons. He gets sick every three months and is sick in bed for a week. My husband has always wanted a Labrador Retriever. We spent months researching Labrador Retrievers. We wanted to make sure that this type of dog was a dog that we knew would be a great addition to our family. My husband is also an avid hunter and I fear for him in the woods by himself. With his condition he tires very easily and having someone (yes, I look at a pet as a person and not an animal) in the woods with Dave when the pup is old enough eases my minds.
In February we acquired Bear. Oh my, what a cute little guy he was and now he''s turned into a beautiful man. He is now almost 11 months old. Since we''ve had Bear the strangest thing has happened! David has only been sick ONE time! Bear is our special little therapy baby. I never thought that just by getting a dog it would help my husband''s disease. Now I know, Bear was meant to be in our family. Most people don''t realize the impact an animal can have on a persons life. I now believe Bear was meant to be a Therapy Dog. Once old enough for the testing I''m sure he will pass and be on his way toward making other people''s lives as happy as he makes ours! "
Thank you.

Many thanks Lisa for sharing your story with us, a special award & prize will be sent to you soon. Hope Bear enjoys it - he certainly is worthy of his award. If anyone would like to nominate their lab to win the award, for whatever reason, drop us a line at julie@labradorforums.co.uk with your story. A photo to accompany your story would be great too, thanks.
Well done Bear, what a proud mum you must be Lisa for winning, my dog is a Therapy dog, or PAT dog, its a wonderful thing to see the reaction on people's faces when he enters their room.
Your husbands disease sounds awful, but I hop he goes from strength to strength with you and Bear by his side.
Best wishes
Natalie and Jack x
PS: Are you in the US or Canada Lisa ?

Well done Bear and Lisa, he sure is a handsome boy and sounds very special
I sympathise with your husband, my mum hs been suffering from Sarcoidosis in the lungs for a very long time now and we have to be very careful to stay away from her when we have bugs etc to ensure that she doesn't pick anything up because her resistance is so low
Fantastic!
Some People really don't understand how much of an impact Animals can have on peoples lives. Big or small.
Bear is a very special Boy!
Well Done xx
