Posted: Fri Jan 20, 2006 9:24 pm Post subject: MEET REVEL |
   |
|
Meet Revel, he is nearly 12 years old. Up until a month ago Revel spent 6 years of his life on a cold floor, sleeping in his own urine without a blanket or toy to call his own. He was underweight and his fur, which had been sitting in urine, had now become matted and rotten underneath.
His owners, unintentionally perhaps, seemed to have given up any hope of solving his problems and his incontinence, constant bladder infections, cystitis and arthritis was left untreated for nearly two years. Life looked hopeless for this boy.
This particular rescue that I volunteer for relies on volunteers to make visits to homes like this and make assessments of the dogs. As the nearest helper I was called in to assess Revel. What I saw was a sad dog, wanting love, wanting security. Somewhere in his heavy eyes there was a glimmer of hope…
This said rescue tries to keep the dogs in their own homes until re homing them. However this is not always possible and dogs that are removed from homes are either put into, new homes (if suitable homes are available), foster homes or kennels where they wait in hope.
I decided to foster Revel in hopes that a suitable home would be found soon. Within the first few days Revels poor health condition became more apparent when he could no longer walk or stand and was in constant extreme pain due to untreated arthritis. His quality of life was paramount, and a discussion took place, it was decided that if there was no improvement and he was suffering, then an agonising decision would have to be made in the next few days. Revel was given all the love, attention and treats he could manage.
Then something remarkable happened the next day, it was as if Revel had heard us talking… he started bouncing around, running up stairs and being playful. Gone was the dog that could no longer stand or walk.
It seemed Revel had regained the will to live.
Revel continues to make a remarkable recovery. He has become an outgoing, confident & happy dog who can run and jump and swim with the best of them! His fur is now thick, shiny and velvety and his eyes are no longer heavy and droopy.
Without this rescue, in this particular, case none of this would have been possible. It is because of their work and donations from people like YOU that they are able to support dogs like Revel.
Revel will undergo another non invasive test to see if his constant urinary infections and incontinence can be eased, if not solved. The cost of this one trip to the vet, before long term treatment, amounts to £400 alone. We’re hoping that with these treatments, one day soon Revel will wake up for the first time in 6 years in a warm, dry bed, knowing he is unconditionally loved and wanted.
Dogs like Revel need your support. He is one of the many that come to various rescues in search of hope for a better life..
A PERSONAL PLEA: Revel also requires waterproof disposable pads and bed mats to ensure he gets a warm & dry nights sleep. Any donations of pampers baby bed mats, puppy pads etc would be GREATLY appreciated.
I’m also ecstatic to say that Revel has now also found his forever home - with me as his permanent foster! He has made himself at home with me and my two Labradors, who keep him young and active, to him its more than a home, it’s a chance for the life he deserves.
Please PM me for all details about Revels particular case.
I must say if you ever wanted to help but don’t know how there are various ways and various rescues, you can become a volunteer or sponsor a dog or even adopt a rescue of your very own.

Thank you Clair! What a lovely thing to say. It is true the older ones get forgotten about and I cannot tell you how rewarding having Revel around has been. He is such a wonderful dog and despite his unlucky past he is still wonderful and full of life. All I wish is good things for him.
Thank you Mary. Yes unfortunately it had to be redone I am not one for getting amidst things but I had to take a stand on my story. I'll be posting lots more about Revel in the future!
I love Cjs pic - cracks me up everytime..looks like he is blocking his ears. Was cindy barking

Well done Amanda, George and Charlie for giving Revel the love and support he needs in his retirement years.
I think it's nice to see where donations are spent on rescue dogs such as Revel and it's lovely to see the photos of this now happy dog and it's a reminder to all us labrador nutters that there are many more labs out there like Revel.
Looking forward to seeing photos of more rescue dogs and their happy stories.

Thanks! Yes Clair loads!
This is my favourite one. Revel is in front, Charlie in the middle and George far. Revel is starting to look younger than them! They certainly keep him fit and vice versa. G&C are losing weight and Revel is reaching his target weight gain.
Give us a kiss, Revel in the middle.
Did someone say treats??
Despite having his own bed, Revel loves Georges one and well George got fed up of waiting for it back so climbed in..

What an inspiring story!
Revel is now getting a happy loving forever caring home with you Amanda.

Lovely pics Amanda, love the one of all three kissing! I have to say George and Charlie are looking more trimmer than they did, well done Revel for keeping them on their toes & burning more calories.
