Do you think a wet dog t-shirt will do the same job at keeping them cool as the expensive keep cool dog coat?

added: I want to do Race for Life and both be dressed in pink for fun. But I don't want her to get hot if it's sunny.

Wet Tshirt competition? Can you just see this at Crufts? Wink

What's wrong with just wetting the dog? Works for us Wink

I tend to steer away from gimmicky products for cooling dogs. i doubt either are worth the money for pets (different if you were out in the sun at a field trial all day maybe?)

I try to walk out of the heat of the day, carry water with me and make sure there's a swim spot on route. Woodland walks are nicer than field in the heat.

A quick hose down on the neck (the jugular) groin area and paws helps them cool down after a walk.

Also, try not to worry about panting. I think because human panting is out of breath/exhaustion we all tend to worry at the site of a panty dog when really we are happy to accept that people sweat on a hot day and it is the same thing.

The reason I ask is because I want to do Race for Life for Cancer, and I can take my dog along.

I want her to be dressed in Pink like everyone else (will be fun), but I don't want her to be hot if it's a sunny day.

Very Happy

Ahhh I see!

I doubt either will keep her cool for long , they'll dry out and then be warming won't they? Confused

What about a nice pink bandana around her neck instead?

Or.... (and I'll probably be jumped on for this Laughing ) .....what about that spray in colour....the stuff from superdrug that washes out with water. You could just spray a little pink ribbon shape on her side maybe?

no it's for humans Embarassed It comes in a spray can for a couple of quid. It's the sort that kids put on at fairs (or maybe punks use it i don't know Confused )

I must confess to spraying a blue 'B' on Basils side once at a beach swimming race.....they weren't allowed collars on for safety and there were a lot of black labs there!
It does wash out very easily as his 'B' was almost gone by the time he finished.

What a lovely idea!

And I now understand the reason for the original question - one I should maybe be thinking of myself as we are going to do the Waggy Walk for the Hospice - mind you it's only 3 miles so probably not likely to get her overheated. And it is along the River Ayr so she could alwasy get herself wet Rolling Eyes

We did have a case a while ago in the local paper about a Labrador that was supposed to be doing a 12 mile sponsored walk with its owner and had to be rescued because of exhaustion! Poor lamb hadn't been further than about 3 miles, owner had trained without him and had just assumed he'd be OK.

I think I would have to be rescued because of exhaustion if I did 12 miles too!
