Hi All,
Over the past few months, we have had many entrants for the ''Lab of the month'' competition, and we would like to pass on our thanks to all those who have emailed us with their stories. These will be kept on a month to month basis.
The winner of the award for this month, goes to a very special little Lab called ''Pogo''. Here Rhoni, who is his temporary foster, tells us why she has nominated him to receive this award:
Rhoni writes:
" Please may I put young Pogo forward for Lab of the month. I say young, I have no idea how old he is. Pogo was due to be pts on the 18th December but was saved with hours to spare by people with huge hearts. He was placed is a safe haven until I took him as emergency foster last Monday. Apart from not knowing his age, or what his real name was, if he had ever had one. Didn''t know what food he liked or would he be scared of me / humans.
Had he ever been in a house? Seen or heard a TV or hoover? He certainly wasn''t house trained. It is like having an 8 week old new puppy again. He arrived with stitches, having only been castrated days before. This was a true canine blind date ! And he coped with everything so well, albeit understandably subdued.
Poor Pogo is so dreadfully thin, he really is a walking skeleton with fur on.His saviors took excellent care of him and gave a basis to work from but it will be a long slog. Basically whatever his life was before last Monday we will never know, he is a complete unknown entity, a blank canvas. But putting all this aside he is the most wonderful, calm, sweet natured pup. Not one bit of malice. He plods around behind Tilly, and yesterday asked to go out for the very first time. He is very sharp and has learned that by going out to pee then coming in when called he gets a biscuit. This morning he '' pretended '' he wanted to go out to come back in with a hopeful look on his face. Just half an hour ago, when realising I wasn''t playing that game, he opened the back door himself. I thought I was seeing things but NO he opens the door ! He is a very tall boy and doesn''t need to jump up, does it with his mouth. He still hasn''t made a sound. I don''t know if he has been chastised for barking or what but being vocal is not one of his traits. The most he has done is a tiny pathetic whimper at bed time.
Pogo is just beginning to realise he has a life, demonstrating some small improvement everyday now and I am so proud of him, and my Tilly for teaching him some of the ropes. Apart from whatever terror he had, the last two weeks must of been so scary for him but he has taken it all in his stride. He already has great qualities and once my role is complete he will be the most amazing, loyal, friendly companion for a very lucky person. Good luck Pogo and welcome to the rest of your life.. "
