Evening All,
A question for all the cat owners out there. When you got your puppy what was it like introducing your puppy to your cat(s)? I have 2 young cats and was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get my puppy and cats off to a good start. My friend brought her puppy round last week and after a little bit of hissing my cats were very inquisitive and wanted to investigate, so I'm confident that eventually they will get on ok but it would be great to hear about other peoples experiences. Thank you Very Happy

I've done it twice now, and have to confess I did not have a strategy on either occasion...

My only rule was that I would not allow the puppy to chase the cats...

I just supervised and let them find their own levels which led to this... (scuse the dirty carpet Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed )

This photo is of my 10 month old Irish Red and White Setter Puppy with my very shy and nervous 3 year old black cat Bailey - as you can see Bails was cuddling up right into the puppy

Oh and heres another for you, this is Neo with Tia and Jet - the other two

As you can see it all worked out fine... good luck and post some piccies ....

Like Eve, I just leave them all to get on with it but won't let the pup chase the cats. Thankfully my cats are pretty much bombproof where dogs are concerned but as your cats are only young they will very quickly adjust to the new arrival, albeit with a bit of hissing to start with. Wink

When I got Jet from the CPL at 9 weeks - she was not used to dogs and at the time I ahd Sam

She came out of the basket like a little she devil - tail like a bottle brush hissing and spitting and using the most unladylike language - within an hour she had shut up and worked out that dogs were GOOD and easily trained!!!

She used to jump on Sams tail and ride it with all her claws dug in for grip!! She really is and was a little madam!!!!

I am sure your cats will be fine as long as they don;t get chased
