While you are waiting for other replies, you could try champdogs .co.uk or the kennel club, they have a list of breeders with puppies or you could ask your vet if he knows of any puppies. Thats how I got my Dog Jet and what a find he was .
Only word of advice you must SEE hip and current eye scores of BOTH parents. Its a touchy subject here and its best to make sure you do. LAbs I am sure (But then it can be true for almost every breed of dog) you are aware have hereditary problems associated with hip and eyes.
Discuss with the breeders your requirements. Look around and TRY not to pick the first you see its so hard - I know and 'pots and kettles' aside I have learned the hard way. I will now wait for the 'right' puppy rather than the available one. Though there will be members of this forum who would disagree with me on my last point- but thats the idea of a forum. It will be for you to decide what to do with any info you get here.
A £500 pup will not necessarily be better than a £250 one!!
Good luck in finding a pup- hope you will lets us all see the result of your search, just like friends babies I love to see other peoples pups-
Call me sad!!

HI
Suzanne has given you advise. I would disagree with going the Kennel Club route. Anyone who pays a fee to the Kennel Club has their pups put on the list irrespective of whether the parents have had health checks.
I would get in touch with any of the breed clubs. They have a member who keeps a list of reputable breeders, and as far as I know will not put puppies on their lists unless the parents have had the necessary health checks. The Labrador Retriever Club covers the whole country, there is Midland Counties and North West Labrador Club which would be nearer to you.
I also think that you should be prepared to travel a bit for the right puppy.Hope this helps Regards Meg

Thanks Megaloo re KC info-, I was tired when I wrote this and knew I'd forgot 'someone'-LRC. Hopefully anyone who does go the KC route will do their homework though. The LRC type route seems a lot 'safer' and less time consuming.
