Hi Everyone!

Arron and Leo here!

Leo is just over 8 months old, born December 18th to a farm working family. Saw both parents, lovely black labs.

So...what else to say...

Leo is a bit of a handful, but i wouldnt change him for the world!

Just a few things, some things I'd like a bit of reassurance on if possible!

a) Is it natural for labs to be born burgulars?! Remote controls...towels...spoons (?) etc?

b) Is it normal to be able to see the third eyelid on yellow labs? My last dog was a lab/alsation cross, black, and never really noticed it...

c) Leo is really hyper! At what age do they start to....calm down a bit?

Thanks! And hi again! Smile

Welcome both Very Happy

I'm no expert; but IMHO ..

a) Yes - Carly is an expert pick-pocket of Socks, Envelopes, loo rolls!
b) Dont know - havent noticed Carly's..
c) When Carly was younger i would have comments such as - ooh labs they dont "calm" until 4,6,8 years - Carly is now 2 and I would say she is calmer than she was at 6mnts - 1 year - but can still be a handful when she's excited Very Happy

Hi Arron and Leo, welcome to LF.

1) Yes, perfectly normal, they will steal anything they can get their paws on...particularly if they think it will get a reaction from you!
2) Some dogs you can see the third eyelid, some not. Both of my parent's yellows and my chocolate have visible third eyelids, but only if they don't close their eyes properly when they nod off
3) He will calm down eventually, might be as soon as a year, might be many more....I've known a yellow to be calm by about 15 months and one who is still a terror at 4!

Hi and welcome.

Have just joined myself but so far have had great advice.

My two monkeys used to take anything they could find including the washing out of the basket, remote controls (been through a few of those!!) etc. Now they are 14 months old and they generally leave stuff alone. I can even leave a bag of dog food down and they will show some interest but not attack it!
Afraid I don't know about the eyelid. Have never noticed it on my two.
I am still waiting for my pair to calm down but many people have said to me if you can get to 2 years you are over the worst!? I seriously live in hope!! Confused

Carolyn, Daisy and Katie xx

Hi and welcome. Very Happy

They are little thieves and you need to watch everything that they might pinch and let them know it belongs to you and you only. Laughing

I can see Wicca's third eyelid when she is sleepy but it's usually not very prominant.

They are all different, some chill out fairly quickly, others are always a bit manic. As they get older and can have more excersise, they usually cool their jets a bit. It also depends on what kind of activities and mental stimulation they get.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Good to know that Leo isnt a thieving, odd, crazy freak...he's just a Lab! Very Happy

I guess i notice his third eyelid as i never knew about it, and my last dog was black, so i never noticed it. Here, with him being Yellow, and me finding out about it, i guess im always looking for it now!

He's going round my parents house daily atm, as my wife is in hospital, so he goes to them while i visit her...and they have a big pond!

SPLOSH! He loves it! Very Happy
