   |
|
Hi guys,
Any ideas on how to safely remove a wee spot of tipp ex from a puppy's coat? It was used to identify the pups but I was wondering what I could do to take it off.
Was thinking warm soapy (puppy shampoo to make bubbles) water. What do you think?Any tips?

You could try using neat washing up liquid - that's what the vets told me to use on my cat when she got covered in oil and other stuff that we couldn't get out with ordinary shampoo. It will strip the coat of it's natural oils but if it's only a tiny spot then it shouldn't hurt too much.
Of course you could give that a try if the normal shampoo doesn't work.
One litter I looked at the breeder had painted their toenails with varnish to identify them

Only Tippex Remover or a Nail Varnish Remover containing acetate will get rid of Tippex. Have you tried brushing it out?
Breeders usually use ribbons in different colours

Wouldn't worry it wears off, Darcie had it on her hip and it was gone in no time.

Great thanks guys. I'll give it a brush out and if not, try the soapy water. Just wondered if anyone had encountered it. We do it in the rescue centre to identify pups but as I don't work with pups, didn't think to ask the girls about this before I left work today!
Ribbons and the temp collars you can get for pups inevtably get chewed up, or wose, digested! Usually tipp ex or a wee dot of nail polish seems to stay on longer, with no side effects either. She didn't come from a breeder, just an 'accident' that a friend had!

Oh well, fair enough. What works for one person, and all that! I know we tried them in the centre and they were a nightmare. Not the same ones as you are describing though. These were papery plastic things, like hospital wrist bands that were wee temporary collars. Even if we trimmed the band to size, they didn't seem to last long. They weren't very economical either. Yours sound like a lovely posh version! Must be nice still to have them as a wee keepsake.
