   |
|
There have been NUMEROUS threads on here about types of food we all feed our beloveds, but one that doesn't seem to come up that often is Purina BETA.
Our last dog, was from working lines, and who's both parents were working dogs, all of which were fed on dry BETA, hence we carried that on with him.
Now we have Lucy, and her breeder also used BETA (with both mum and pups when they got to that age), therefore she is also on BETA (and just switched to the adult version).
Lucy is in the most wonderful condition, bright eyes, the SHINIEST coat around, a slim 28kgs and beautiful pearly whites. There are no additives in BETA, a good proportion of protein and from what I can tell, just as good ingredients as the other popular brands mentioned on here, such as Skinners, JWD, Burns, Chudleys etc.
So, i guess what I'd like to know, is who also uses BETA, and if you don't, is there any reason why you don't? Because it never seems to be mentioned that much when we're talking food!?
Thanks

I DO! and i and the dogs love it! now their on adult i alternate between all the flavours too, first the lamb and rice, then chicken and rice then salmon and rice then back to lamb...
ours both have incredibly shiney coats, nice and slim (well lillie would be a bit slimmer if she would stop stealing bread off the side and food out of the bin )
would reccomend it to anyone

YAY, another BETA EATER!
Yes, Lucy's first 'adult' version, is the lamb and rice, but think i'll switch between the flavours...isn't the salmon one for 'sensitive' tums or doesn't that matter?
Yes, shiny coats, nice and slim.....sounds like a BETA pup
Edited to say: Yes, Lucy stole a whole bag of bread rolls last weekend via a spot of 'counter surfing' and her belly was almost touching the floor safe to say she got NO BETA that night!

Here is why I wouldn't feed BETA - these are the ingredients for the Salmon & Rice (I guess the nearest equivalent to the Salmon & Rice that I feed)
Cereals (min. 4% rice; min. 4% whole grain maize)
Meat and animal derivatives
Vegetable protein extracts
Oils and fat
Derivatives of vegetable origin (min. 4% soya meal; min 0.5% beet pulp)
Fish and fish derivatives (min 4% salmon)
Minerals
Vegetables (min. 0.5% chicory)
The cereals aren't specified completely - I don't feed wheat and this may contain wheat (even though the blurb says it doesn't). You have meat and animal derivatives (want to know what animal derivatives are?), again these aren't specified so you don't know what this is - the ingredients could change from each produced lot and you wouldn't know. The animal dervatives could be chicken or anything else that doesn't agree with my dog.
Same goes for the oils & fats - again not specified, could just be what's available for that month's production run. Salmon content is minimal (min 4% compared to 17.5% in the F&T) and you don't know what the other fish is. Judging by the ingredients list there is more other types of meat in there than salmon (as salmon is so far down the list). Same goes for the vegetable stuff - you don't know what veggies are being used.
But I'm picky with dog food and need to know what's in there - the fact it doesn't contain any artificial colourings, flavourings or preservatives is good. At the end of the day you have to find something that suits your dog and if it works then stick with it

Brilliant at last someone has mentioned Beta! Abbey is cirrently on JWB but is becoming a bit expensive had a word with the lady where we get our dog food from but didnt want to compromise with quality and she recommended Beta so we are definately going to try Abbey on it.

I don't feed Beta because it is owned by Nestle. They have some fairly shocking business practices that I just refuse to support Hudson came to us on Beta, he loved it but his skin was really scurvy.

That's fair enough Feebarn, but sorry to hear it disagreed with Hudson's skin amazing how all the different foods can affect dogs in different ways.
I think unless Lucy has any problems, she'll stay on BETA for the rest of her life....seems to do her the world of good, which suits me just fine!
