|
I am looking into starting some gundog training with my boy, his basic training is pretty good but i now need some help.
Does anyone have any ideas on some good books to use and also any good sites to get dummies and whistles from and also the pitch of the whistle to use? i have been told 211 or 211.5 is this right?
Just need any help or advice anyone has really!

You're best off posting this question in the field trials bit I reckon. Hopefully then some of the experienced gun dog type people can advise, if you put what you are aiming to do and where you are based etc.

Good books - A simple approach to Gundog training by our own John W - brilliant!
try googling turner richards for dummies etc.
sure someone else will be along soon with other recommendations

www.lainsshootingschool.co.uk is where I get all my dummies whistles etc I use 211.5 pitch whistle always have . When I started gun dog training I watched videos on basic gun dog training and took it from there and then found a great trainer who helped me with the rest and then the next two dogs as well.

also look at Quest for equipment
I use a 211.5 whistle and an assortment of dummies, from the canvas 1lb ones, to a rabbit fur one (good for intorducing dogs to fur and feather and for those who are getting bored of the canvas dummies), and also some plastic ones that float in water - defo get one of those for water work.
Yep JohnW's book is a great one to read when starting out, and also agree with rach about the Gundogclub. I did grades 1&2 last year and they gave me a good grounding.
GOOD LUCK and ENJOY
