wave I am after some tips for spotty one.

Ruby couter surfed a few times knocked something over scared herself silly and has not really been in the kitchen since. But Lily OMG she is a horror!!!!!! She is bold as brass and has no fear at all of anything she has cleared surfaces been bopped by the cat - nothing puts her off.

I would like to know if anyone has any tips on how to get them out of the counter surfing habit please

Sorry, no tips from me except don't leave anything out that would tempt them, and never leave the Beach Boys cd playing, it only encourages them!!!

Gosh my music memory is crap on a Saturday morning, edited because I thought I'd got the name wrong!! And I'd actually got it right, must get another cup of tea.......

Morris has only done this twice, once when his nose was just reaching 'counter level', and about four months ago when some trifle sponge bits were hanging over the edge, so both very tempting!, but he shouldn't do it, so each time he has received the biggest telling off and I think because we don't shout as a rule this just shocked him and he has left well alone. We have also worked really hard to give him his boundaries in our kitchen, we have a really large open kitchen, with an island and he knows exactly how far he can come, but this took months and months to get right Rolling Eyes Good luck Very Happy

Have no idea how to stop them doing it Tori apart from don't let them in the kitchen Razz But I am stupid and allow my dogs the run of the house so I could not do it Laughing

How else do you teach them how to cook ? Shocked

Harry's the best, he rests his head between his paws on the work top, gives you a side look as if to say "Hi dad, what's cookin?". Cool

All three of mine do it. OK, so they shouldn't, it's not good behaviour, it's not hygenic, but I don't care. Razz

We'd give most behaviourists palpitations. Wink Laughing

I suppose if you want to stop that behaviour you will just have to persist in telling them NO! Down! etc.

Very Happy

Our pup will pinch anything he can reach if on a worktop.

he is very tall and can reach the worktops easily

He has even managed to get in the sink to lick the plates.

Nothing seems to high for him if he can't reach it he will jump up and get it.

Is it happening when you are there - in which case I would keep telling her "off" or whatever command you use for that, until she gets the message. If it's happening while you're not in the room but you know she's doing it, I think tin foil along the surface is meant to discourage but I'm not sure it would be Lily-proof?!

If they're doing it while you're there, could you not just tell them "off" and ask them to sit and wait while you do the food?

Mine are all greedy s*ds but they're very good while I'm getting food ready, ours or theirs, and I have two "helpers" in the form of Max and M-M when I'm cooking, they lay down in one of the beds, watch intently and hope to get something for behaving nicely Laughing

Well you know I failed miserably to ever train Tara not to steal food off the sides (and out of the cupboards, fridge, etc Shocked ). She knew she shouldn't do it, so she just did it when I wasn't looking instead (crafty minx Laughing ).

I think I would just be tempted to put a gate across the kitchen doorway, so that she can't help herself to anything, so rewarding herself for the behaviour.

Naughty Spotty girl Wink Laughing .
