Just got back from our first venture out on the lead. Up to now we've been restricted to the garden and the fields where my horses are kept, but I thought we should venture out to the park over the road.
Keeping the whole 5 minute rule in mind we barely made it to the park before it was time to come back.
I'm not sure how well it went as I've nothing to use as a benchmark. He pulled a lot, but sat when asked to, although it took many attempts. He did walk next to me particularly nicely for a bit when there weren't any smells or movement to detract his attention. We met some dogs and all hell broke loose and then some big labradors came hurtling to their gate to yell at us.
I can see this is going to be very challenging and we need a lot of practice at home. I can understand why everything is so exciting to a little puppy and no amount of 'no', 'sit' or whatever is going to get his attention at the moment.
Roll on puppy school - I need all the help I can get!

Sounds like your first walk went really well. Storm just kept sitting all the time on his first walks and wanting to go home bless him. The neighbours had a good laugh at us to for a number of weeks!!!

On Lana's first walk she just wanted to sit down so Hudson didn't do too bad
There are so many distractions when they first venture out, but once they get used to them, they do settle in to it

No, he's definitely not nervous! A little woried about the cars but it was the first time he'd seen so many going past.
When the house was in sight he practically turned himself inside out! He so pleased to see home again. We'll do more of that later I think.
