Sad Well just got back from the vet, poor Tara has kennel cough and doesnt she know it, the eyes are rolling, head on the knee asking for biscuits to help her get better. The vet gave her pills and cough medicine for her and Tess and it was a battle of wills to get them to take it but one dose down.

Anybody got any tips

Ok well its probably a bit late now, but KC will run its course for the same length of time, in a healthy adult dog or older puppy, with or without really needing the vet and antibiotics, but now you have them, its great!

I always dunk the antibiotics in jam and offer them if the dog will not take them in food. Shoved in a bit of chicken or beef mince most will take them.

Now the cough mixture. I've not heard of vets giving this, but for me, if they start KC, I put a tiny bit of goats milk, a little boiling water, a little glucose powder and a couple of big spoonfuls of some human 'honey and glycerine' cough mixture in a bowl and let them lap it up. warm, soothing, and really all they need and cheap as chips Wink

I have been told by my vets before to give mine some childerns benylyn and I have always found this has helped, always let it run the course without tablets and have often given them icecream to help with the sore throats.

Must admit di's ingredients above sound tasty !!

Phoenix is just getting over this. I didn't take her to the vets and treated her myself using benylin and honey.

I put half spoon of benylin in a bowl, and mixed it with some hot water and a teaspoon of honey, let it cool and she lapped it up. She had this three times a day. I also used some herbs from CSJ that help boost their immune system on her food twice daily.

She was only coughing for 5 days and has been quite well in herself.

Hope yours gets over it as easily.
