Hi Everyone,

Not sure if anyone has posted anything similar recently (did a quick search couldn't find anything) but just wanted to pop something in a thread for us all to remember.

Reason being, whilst out with Isabella shopping i noticed a little dog in the back of a car (parked in a car park) and yes the window was open slightly but it didn't make a blind bit of difference, it was about 20 degrees and this poor little chap was gasping for breath on its last legs on the parcel shelf. I nearly broke in myself but luckily stopped a policeman who was passing (as is by fate!) who thankfully rescued the little dog.

Please don't leave your dogs in the car on hot days, even if the window is open. I know you're probably all aware of this, but even so - here's a quick reminder taken of the RSPCA website.

Thanks for listening.

Julie

*************************************************** **********

In warm sunny weather cars become ovens, with temperatures soaring to 120°F/49°C or even higher. Because of this, the RSPCA advises that animals are never left inside cars.

If an animal left in a car is panting for breath it may be starting to suffer from heatstroke, which can kill an animal very quickly.

Leaving windows open or putting a bowl of water in the car does not help.

Owners who put an animal at risk by leaving it inside a locked car could face prosecution.

Please help us get this message across this summer. It will save more dogs from suffering and avoid the need for us to prosecute owners.
Dogs can die from heatstroke in a minimum of 20 minutes.

Good reminder Julie Wink

OH's sister-in-law was working as a vet nurse assistant years ago and they had a dog come in who had been left in a car, and the owners couldn't have cared less. Poor thing eventually died after suffering terribly. Sad

I was at a dog show the other day and it was blazing hot. Was standing by a car waiting to go in the show ring and in the car was an Alsation, no windows open, no water - infact no nothing.

Me and my friend had been stood there for over an hour and didnt realise there was a dog in the car Sad . Apparently when the owner came back (I was in the show ring at the time) he said he got involved in talking to a mate Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad and didnt relaise how long he had been away from his car!!! The Police and Show Secretary got involved so hopefully he got his comeuppance.

Just wanted to add that I saw some TV coverage of an RSPCA rescue a couple of days ago - two lurchers left in a car. One was already dead, they broke into the car and tried to rescue the second one but it died.

I've never seen anything so horrific, it will haunt me for ages. I'm actually going to send an email to the RSPCA advising them they should use part of this footage/pictures as an advertising campaign. Not nice, granted - but I'm sure it would be a good deterrent.

My stepsisters son had a band, Dogs die in Hot Cars, as one of the member's dog had died this exact way Sad

I never take the dogs when they may be left in the car, only in the car to go for walks Very Happy

A friend of mine also broke a car window when a GSD was left in high heat and pulled the dog out, when the owner of car and dog came back they were worried about who was going to pay for the cost of the window Shocked Evil or Very Mad idiots

I remember a dog (or maybe two) dying a year or so ago after being left in a car on a hot day in the car park of a garden centre. I think they might have been Newfies too. Very very sad - and the garden centre apparently allowed dogs in too Crying or Very sad
