Thought I would mention Bouncer in here in case anyone was thinking of adopting an oldie lab and would consider a cross. I have added him to the database but haven't noticed him appear there yet.

Bouncer is a 16 year old yellow Labrador cross being fostered in Lincs for Oldies Club http://www.oldies.org.uk/?p=4333

His foster home has made a video of him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC6oSX1JUGs and says:

Bouncer is a friendly, small Lab cross of about knee height, who has a real zest for life and always has a wag in his tail for you.

Despite his years, he’s still active and loves his walks and is a perfect gentleman on the lead. He lets you know if he feels it’s walk time, by bouncing up and down in front of you. He’s also very happy to potter around the garden and explore at his leisure. Bouncer travels well in the car too and settles down straight away, even on short journeys.

Bouncer loves children and is very calm and gentle around them. He loves being groomed and will happily sit for as long as you are willing to brush him.

He is fantastic with our cat; he wags his tail and watches from a respectful distance. He’s very polite with other dogs he meets when out on his walks and he’s always very pleased to meet them. He’s also met our chickens and they are slowly learning to get along.

Bouncer is very clean in the house and can be left for up to 4 hours in the daytime. The only time he barks is to let you know that he needs to go out. He sleeps well through the night and sometimes even enjoys a lie in! If there’s a sofa available he likes to sneak on, but has never jumped up when we are present.

Bouncer is a bit deaf, but responds if you clap your hands or click your fingers loudly. His eyesight isn’t too good either, although he manages perfectly well as long as there are no real tricky obstacles to manoeuvre.

Bouncer is a perfect gentleman who would fit into any household. Aside from a couple of harmless fatty lumps and what our vet has termed “Labrador love handles”, he has a clean bill of health and is now ready to find his very own retirement home.

Bouncer has been successfully treated for an ear-mite infection. He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and flea and worm treated.

If you would like to find out more about Bouncer, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

Bouncer can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet him.

I'm not sure why Bouncer came into Oldies Club care. He's amazing for 16 though isn't he Smile

We do take dogs in for various reasons, including some who have belonged to elderly owners who have either very sadly died, had to go into care and can't take the dog or just can't care for the dog anymore and often their family contact us for help because they are not able to help themselves due to other commitments. It must be very sad having to part with a dog in that way Sad

Our dogs all go into foster homes, so at least Bouncer is enjoying home comforts while waiting for his new family to find him Smile

oohhhhh lovely!!!!!! A more mature boy is in our future but not for a few years yet I think any retired gent would be driven into an early grave with my two young girlies at the moment.

Definitely bear an oldie in mind if you look for another dog Smile

We do take/list dogs aged 7+ on the OC site - including dogs for various lab rescues - and these are not all "old" dogs by any means Smile

Sadly my older dogs all qualify as oldies now but I think they are more middle aged - and they are all happy with M-M being here, in fact Cassie, our ten year old, is her best friend Very Happy
