To All,
I've just run through another test (on a copy of this site) and it was very successful. I think it only failed to import something like 1.5% of the posts from the site before the crash.
I would like to ask a favour... could I have a few volunteers to have a good browse round the test site to try and find any problems that may have appeared as a result? If you would like to volunteer please PM me.
If all goes well with the testing then we would like to do this for real tonight at 18:00 and the site shouldn't be down for more than 10-15 minutes while we do this (I'll put a further post up when confirmed).
So volunteer away!
Cheers...
Stuart

We won't be going ahead with the import of the posts from the old forum tonight....
While the import of the posts was ok (with a few minor errors) it was not possible to search any of these posts. Which brings us to the next problem.... To make these posts searchable will mean taking the website offline for maybe 12 hours or more.
Don't panic! We are looking at breaking this down into smaller chunks. During the loading of each chunk we will point the website to a temporary database so that the website is never really down although any posts during that time will be lost when we point the website back to it's proper database.
Once we have more information and some more accurate timings we will let everyone know.
