Hi everyone, I am new to the site and am hoping for some advice please. I have 2 wonderful labs who I adore, Holly is 12 years old next month and super slim and healthy (thank goodness). Lexie is just about to turn 1 and is a little podgy. She was last weighed at the vets approximately 4 months ago when she was speyed and was 28kg. I have just returned from the vets again and she has gained 4kg and I dont want this to continue and would welcome any advice. She will eat anything and everything (of course) but does have lots of exercise, I currently feed her Beta puppy and have to admit that she does get treats but thats a guilt thing on my part when I leave them to go to work in the morning. Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated, Ally.

I would drop the puppy food ,at a year old she should be on adult fod now.
There is no 'ideal' weight for labs tbh ,my Midas is over 32 kg and only 9 months old and still looks slim so without a pic I cant say for deffinate of she is a porker but if you are concerned and cant feel her ribs then I would cut out all tit bits and just feed adult food and see if that help

I`m with Skatty, your girl needs to be on adult food now, puppy food has more protein in which she no longer needs in the same quantitys.
Did the vet say she`s overweight?, if you can feel her ribs without having to press hard and she has a waist then she is about right, a lot also depends on whether the Lab has show or working lines in its pedigree, working lines tend to be naturally slimmer looking

Hiya....
As Skatty said, put her on the Adult version, as the puppy one is higher in calories. Then maybe just cut the amounts you feed down by a 1/3. If she looks starving then add some cooked veg to her food, to pad it out a bit.
Swimming is the best exercise for weight loss, as they burn calories keeping warm as well as while they are moving and it is non weight bearing, so much better on their joints.
