Hi there..first time dog owner ...HELP me in helping my dog
ok so i got a lab for the first time in my life and i am a first time dog owner.I must say that now that i have got a dog i wonder how i could live all these days without one.OMG they are indeed worth every single praise.
But the issue is this...got this yellow 3 months old male lab. This brat is either chewing the entire house to pieces (which seriously is no problem at all) or he is doing nothing. That he is chewing on everything including my fingers is entirely normal i hear so i am fine with it.but when it comes to any other activity than chewing he is extremely lazy.He wouldnt even come out for a walk.I have to continually slightly push him from behind for him to stand on his legs and walk.He would walk for say a few seconds and then sit again.grrr...not to mention how he wants to chew on the leash.
No amounts of treats make him walk long distances (should he even be walking long distances ?? ) Guide me here please as i want him to have a good upbringing.
Oh and btw his name is Oscar
P.S pardon englisch language errors.A german trying to learn english

Congradualtions on your new companion!. I to am a first time lab owner, my pup is 11 months now. What you are experiencing is normal. My dog was the same way, if he was not chewing on something, he was sleeping, or just laying around. He grew out of it, he is still by no means hyper, but he will go outside and walk and play. But when that little they tire very quickly. They will sleep most of the day. I would suggest not letting your pup get used to chewing on your fingers, that is a bad habit to learn. You should not allow that for your own sake.

Hi There
Typical puppy behaviour I'm afraid, into everything then sleep
Regarding the chewing have you a crate for him, once crate trained they love it they see it as there little place of refuge, it also gives you peace of mind when you go out etc......
Walks should be no more than 5 mins per month of age and no running up and down stairs as this could lead to hip problems.
Not based on labs, same idea for bite inhibition

Hope that helps a little

Hi, I have a yellow boy pup about the same age who is exactly the same. We got him used to his lead by walking him in the garden. Whenever he sat and refused to move I pulled gently until he had to move, then out came the squeaky, excited voice and lots of praise. He eventually got the hang of it and is ok now. He also has lots of toys to chew and whenever he tries to get his teeth into anything else I distract him then replace my hand, skirting board, leg, childs toy etc with one of his toys.
And p.s. your English is fine

My two sleep a lot too - it's a dog's life!!! They were either going mad chewing & racing around or asleep when they were puppies. It's completely normal!
And welcome! I hope you enjoy your new puppy!

Oscar sounds very normal.
Archie is 2 and he is very lazy,if it rains,he wont go out, sometimes i worry that he is too lazy, but when we go somewhere new for a walk he loves it and is full of energy.

Welcome to LF and the madcap unpredictable world of the fantastic Lab!
Sounds just like Shadow to me. Chew the floor, sleep, chew us, sleep . . . . . . . .
Would love to see pictures though.
