Hello everyone

Just wanted to ask a quick question - Boo has had a funny tummy since a slow food change from puppy to junior food (he is now 6 months old), so I have stuck him on chicken and rice for a few days to see if i can reintroduce the new food again.

Thing is, the rice is coming out undigested the other end - is this right? Im starting to look out onto a paddy field in the back garden!

Thanks

Justin

May sound like a daft question but are you boiling the rice long enough? Rice is usually very soft and shouldnt be recognisable when it comes out the other end? Have you had him checked out by a vet recently? Always a good idea if youre not sure whats going on Smile Hope it gets sorted soon.

Yeah i'm using brown rice, being boiled for about 25 mins or so ... odd!? He hasnt lost any appetite and is still his normal bouncy-self!

Off to the vets tuesday for his rabies blood test anyway, so will run it past him - in fact might see if i can bring it forward to tomorrow

Thanks Smile

Never used brown rice with mine.....maybe try the white..its lighter and its easier to digest and if he's got a sore tum...he may find it more comfortable to cope with. I used Uncle Ben's boil in the bag Basmatti..10 mins......Good luck Smile

Thanks Snowpines - i'll give that a try.

If you dont mind me asking, how much chicken to rice do you use? And how much would you feed per meal as a general rule? (i've been giving him about an equivalent amount as per his kibble meals).

Just an update...

Went to the vets this morning, and he has given me some probiotic stuff, and sensitive tummy C&R mix to try until tomorrow (when he is going back for his rabies blood test). He will take some extra blood tomorrow to test for any pancreatic problems, which would stop the ability to produce enzymes to break down the food, although he said looking at Boo, this is very unlikely. He thinks it more of a case of a food allergy.

Fingers crossed, the meds from the vet will help bind his tummy short term, and the quest shall continue to find the poor lad a food he is 100% happy with.
