OK Don't laugh!!!!!!!!

I saw one of these on Ebay, to put the puppy in to carry it around with you. At first I thought is was hilarious, but then I wondered if it would be a good idea to help with socialisation until puppy has had all his jabs etc.

Has anyone ever used one? Is this is a silly idea?!?

I saw one some time back when I was at Windermere.
A young couple had what looked like a small Spaniel in the pouch. The bloke was carrying it and he had it at the front of him.
I thought it was a modified baby carrier thing. Shocked

Very Happy

Hi Vicki,
Yes, I think they are a silly idea Smile I think they are just a way for someone to get lots of money off you for calling it a "puppy" somethingorother.
What's wrong with using a 3 quid backpack from Tesco? Or one you have laying about the house?
Also, as far as it enabling you to take puppy out socialising before its shots are effective, what's wrong with just carrying it, puppies that young aren't *that* heavy. If you're going out for such a long time that puppy would be too heavy to carry all that time then perhaps puppy shouldn't be with you, as outings are very tiring for tiny pups and we kept ours down around 10-15 mins at a time to begin with. Small and often is better than an hour a day walking around town. Besides, as small furry bundles, its so much more fun to wrap them in your t-shirt and have them in touching/tickling distance the whole time, rather than have them on your back where you can't play tootsies with them Smile

There is one use for them I can think of, and that's the time it was used for Ozzie... he was being walked with some older dogs who of course had no time restrictions on them... after his 25 mins walking time was up, he was put in the backpack for the remaining hour or so - he would never have been able to carry on for the whole walk he would have been exhausted and possibly hurt himself, so putting him in a backpack was the perfect resolution. It was Carroll's hubby who carried him, Carroll was boarding him for us. I'll see if I can find the pic...

Thanks Ness, yes that is a fantastic picture!! So cute!!!

The ones I saw on Ebay go on your front so you'd be able to see pup.

My thoughts were taking the pup on our walks with Leo/Daisy in the mornings. Obviously pup couldn't walk until he's had his jabs but thought he could come out with us - I don't have enough hands for two leads and carrying puppy at the same time.

Maybe I'll try him in a rucksack I have here and see what he makes of it!!

Who said puppies aren't heavy? Should try carrying one up the hills in Polperro, after 10 minutes you feel like your arm belongs to someone else! Laughing

We used to use an old rucksack with the chest and waist straps from the kids, put on the front like a baby carrying thing. Works a treat and costs next to nothing.
