We had noticed a slowdown on forum page times and a marked (>10 times increase) in the bandwidth consumption of the site.
After doing some investigation we have tracked it down to the recent trend to add large animated banners to the bottom of signature in forums.
Could all members who have these animated signature images please reduce them to at least 1/2 of their present dimensions i.e. Width and Height as the filesizes of most of these is >400Kb each and on a normal forum thread this can mean a total page size of >1.5Mb !!!
This makes the forums very slow for dial up users and costs a fortune in bandwidth.

Sorry to be a pooper, but i've noticed more signature pics that are too big.. if you could reduce them to the above dimensions or below we would be most grateful.

Ideally we would ask for them to be no bigger than 200 pixels X 60 pixels.. i appreciate they don't have to be spot on but around about this measurement would be great.
If you right click on your images and click on Properties, you will see the dimensions and file size listed. Hope that helps
You beat me to it Karen.
Also, if you select "E-mail the picture" when right clicked on the image, you should see the file size on the e-mail. If the image is a JPG or GIF, it should be OK. Most windows computers these days are supplied with Microsoft Picture Editor, or the scaled down version of "Adobe Photoshop".
if you right click on an image file on your computer, it will offer you the option to "Edit with" and show you what image editors you have installed.
You can then resize the image, crop any bits around the edges that are not required, and save it in either a JPG or GIF format, where you will also see the dimensions (which can be specified for the image) and the file size.
