My goegeous little Lab is not eating, I feel this is very wrong as Labradors are renowned for eating anything and everything. He hasnt had anything to eat now for 2 days (dog food) he just drinks water and cries at the bread bin. I gave in today and gave him some brown bread coz I felt sorry for him. He has also started crying and barking in the early hours of the morning. He is 9 months old and is worse now than when he was a puppy. Demented owner !! What should I do???

Ok, So my dog did the same thing he stopped eating and it scared me so i started to put cereal mixed in with his food so he would eat it or I would mix something with it so he would eat. I don't know where you are located but I am in pa and it is very hot and with the coats these dogs have it wouldn't surprise me if your pup isn't eating just because of the heat. the only thing that worries me about yours is it has been two days! Chester will maybe not eat his breakfast but then he will his lunch and dinner...I don't know i would call the vet. But probably not rely on people food because then he/she will expect you to do this all the time......good luck keep us posted...

Hi
Has Casper always been a fussy eater or has he suddenly stopped eating ?
I have a Lab the same age that doesn't eat a lot.

hello clarky
our lab "alfie" is 8 months on thursday and he to is being very picky at the moment. we lways had a rule of food down for 30 minutes,if not eaten its taken away...and i must admit its me whos been a bit lapst with it...but "alfie" is now eating when ever and hes putting his nose in the air as if to say you expect me to eat that...we were being to think he had eaten something and it had got stuck...but no...hes still going regularly...so i think its just alfie being alfie and copying my 2 sons if thats possible...he thinks hes on a par with them anyhow...1 is 12 and 1 is 10 and now alfie is joining in with em....the heat did affect him...but now its raining again so hopefully he'll be back to normal...i did phone the vets and they said as long as hes eating something don't worry....
so i'm not he'll eat when hes hungry is what i think just like kids do....
good luck keren...

We've never had a problem with Corbie and his food (he's 8 months tomorrow), so I know that if he's not eating then something's not right.
Better to let them take a look to be on the safe side.
I would take your pup to the vet to make sure everything is ok, and not give in to cries at the bread bin, otherwise you will start bad habits. We were told never to leave the food bowl down for more than 15 minutes otherwise you will encourage a fussy eater.

If mine weren't eating it'd be straight to the vets! Then again not eating could be a sign of piroplasmosis (a tick bourne disease rife in my neck of the woods) which is fatal if not treated pdq. Call the vets and see what they say.

Hi...
not necessary all labs eat everything and anything... My guy is not a Foodie ...very selective of what he eats ....hez got gourmet taste buds...
i had a time when frodo just refused to eat dog food and wanted to eat what we eat...my vet asked me to keep him hungry for 2-3 days...but just did not have the heart to do that...i do at times give me our food....But if not eating worries you plz do consult your vet...
Regards

Hi Melanie
Penny's the same. It takes me longer to get the food into the bowl than it does for her to eat it. She was in the kennel recently when we were on holiday and the lady who runs the kennel said she's been doing this for many, many years and has never seen a dog so motivated by food as Penny is. She couldn't get her to come out of the kennel into the run unless she'd gone down and put some biscuits at the end.
Hi Clarkey
I'm no expert but I would imagine that if your dog's never been overly interested in food then that's just the way they are. If Penny suddenly lost interest I be really worried.
When she was about 8 months she did seem to go off the dry complete food, but if we added a little bit of water or some meat she was fine and she'll eat totally dry now if that's what we give her. I guess although they seem very much the same they are all individuals at heart.

I remember Tilly went through this.
As soon as it started I took her to vets and as there was not a medical problem I added a dribbling of warm water to the kibble, this cured it.
As she is a pup and it has been two days, I would still get her checked at the vets, although Karen's comment about the bread bin is very valid. Has she been introduced to human nibbles and got a taste for them making her kibble less interesting ?
