i was wondering if anybody has any advice for me. Lennon's as good as gold except for when we go out on the lead. He pulls to the front left when we walk. we've tried him on a harness and a halti and going through basic training but he still does it. i've tried various lengths of lead, different collars etc. I believe in positive training but hes not really interested in treats and ignores toys outside. If i turn around to walk home he walks absolutely perfect, no pulling, looking up at me attentively!!! So i know the training has sunk in but hes being stubborn when he goes the way he wants to!! Has anyone got any advice? He's fine off the lead and i don't want to take this pleasure away from him, but i think thats what hes thinking when he goes out - when am i getting off this lead?!!!! thanks.

hello

if you go into the training section of the forum you'll find loads of advice on lead training.

i think if he's getting the idea most of the time you could continue training away from his normal walks so he doesn't know where he is and therefore isn't anticipating the off lead???

but sounds like he's doing ok so far. how old is he?

I was so glad to see this post here. I'm having a similar issue and I'll check out the training section. Lex is 1 in a few weeks and he is a real Houdini and we can't trust him with anything but a choker chain when outside of the house. Be it harness or collar he has escaped, we haven't been game totry the Halti yet because of his acts of an Escape Artist. He is so well behaved in the home and pulls up well alongside of me on the choker when we are on the homeward leg but he does pull alot when we start out on the walk and most of the time.

It is encouraging to know others have experienced the same issues especially since I got a talking to from the vet about how a Halti would change our lives forever etc just yesterday and I've been feeling like I'm failing ma boy.

Thanks for the advice Tigersam. LovinLex, the one good thing about the halti is that you have back up when they pull because if they do pull out of the halti around the face they have the halti link that attaches to the collar itself so if it slips off, their still attached!! Ha!! Lennon hates the halti and pulls out of it though, and paws at his face (especially around strangers- like hes being hard done by!!) He can't even feel it really and it stops him pulling so i'd recommend them but because he dislikes it so much i want to get him walking without it as best as i can. I've started to do more long line training with him by our house so he thinks hes off when hes not and he listens so i think its strain on his neck he hates the most!! Razz wish me luck!!!
