Our Hugo has now been home for 5 days since his replacement hip op last Friday. He's absoultley amazing as he is doing so well. Can anyone make suggestions on how to keep Hugo calm as he wants to play and do normal puppy games which he must not do. Hugo has to stay in one room for six weeks! He has a D.A.P plug from the vet.

Thank you for your help

Regards

Bev & Hugo Brown

Hi you might want to chat to Wendy (charliesmum) he had a double hip replacement before christmas, she might be able to give you some tips.

Charlie is doing fantastic now and has a new lease of life. Hopefully she'll see this and reply if not pm her.

Hi Bev

Sorry I missed this thread.

I'm so glad that Hugo is doing well - aren't dogs amazing?

This really is going to be a diffcult few weeks, I remember how frustrated Charlie was. I must admit we gave Charlie lots of chews and also he had a couple of knuckle bones from the butchers, We also filled his kong with different things.

Charlie did put on a bit of weight due to the extra chews and lack of exercise but I figured it was better to do that and then get the weight off later when he was racing round again, than risk him getting bored and doing himself some damage.

We also taught him a few tricks - hiding a treat under a cup and moving it around along with 2 other cups and he had to find it. We taught him how to leave a treat when we put it on his paw and things like that.
One trick we did teach him was to line up 3 of his cuddly toys and then teach him the difference. He soon learnt how to find 'duck' 'pheasant' and 'froggie'.

Good luck with him and the time will soon pass and he'll be racing around like Charlie - and at least the weather should be better so you're not constantly cleaning up muddy paw prints!!
