Last Friday, I came home from work to find Ellie with a really sore eye - it was bloodshot and weeping (clear not gunky or cloudy), and my OH said that it had been fine all morning.

It was really itchy for the rest of that day and she was feeling really sorry for herself Sad

The next day it was much much better and Ellie was back to her old self, but as the week has progressed it's still weepy and not as 'open' as the other eye - unless you say 'biscuit?' and then both eyes are wide open, not seeming to cause her any discomfort Confused

On the first day her third eyelid was showing, but since then it's gone away but her eye is still weepy.

I've been bathing her eye, but it doesn't seem to make a difference, although she seems to find it soothing Confused

Her eye isn't bloodshot or swollen and there's nothing in it that I can see.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any suggestions to what it could be?

As I said, Ellie is absolutely fine in herself and the itching has goon, but a trip to the vets is in order if it doesn't clear up by the end of the weekend. Sad

Sorry for the long post Embarassed

Hi Lucie.

I have to say it certainly sounds like an infection of the Conjunctiva. (Conjunctivitis is a coverall word to cover a whole range of infections of the conjunctiva)

Obviously it could be "Something in the eye" just as we sometimes get something in our eyes, but not as likely because the third eyelid acts like a windscreen wiper and clears most debries. A scratch is a possibility, but again I would expect the white of the eye to be inflamed. Although with an infection the other eye usually becomes infected, so a scratch is probably more likely.

You say the white was red last Friday, but not now? You have been bathing it, what with?

Regards, John
