Mia has always had a habit of when she is sniffing around, to raise her front right paw.

This morning after a rather long walk on the pavement, to try and start to wear her bl**dy nails down, i noticed she was raising her front right paw whenever we stopped (sitting at kerbs etc). I though nothing of it as the ground was wet and Mia HATES getting wet (unless she is playing with her sister/friends etc)

We ended our walk with her being off lead in a field, so she could have a good run after all that walking (heel work etc), she disappeared off to have her poo, when she had finished she came bounding over to me, sat down and lifted her paw. (still thought nothing of it, as she is a tart Very Happy ). On the walk back home she started to limp, front paw, right side ( a real shoulder dipping limp).

I did poop sccop Very Happy

When we got home i checked her paw/leg & shoulder, no heat/no pain or blood. She did start licking her leg & chewing her nails Shocked

I left her resting while i popped down to the shops (bought her some nail clippers as filing her nails down is taking ages)
When i got home i again checked her paw/leg & shoulder, still no heat/no pain or blood.

Do you think she may have just pulled a muscle or just have sore feet (foot). I am keeping an eye on her, apart from the paw raising she is fine !!!!!!!!!!!

To early to visit the vet???

Or could it be her bl**dy nails ????

Personally (and having experienced it) I would see how she goes over the next day or so, Minimise the walking and if needs be, take her on lead into the garden or round th block only to go to the toilet and thats it.

If you notice any swelling, heat, bleeding or Mia becomes 'not herself' then a pop down the vets.

If she is still limping after a few days then make the appointment.

Incidentally, a grooming freind of mine suggested a Dremel to file down dogs nails, they are quite and you can change the speed setting Wink

Hi Karen,
Gosh this sounds almost identical to what Asha had yesterday Shocked
I, like you, didn't really know what to do for the best. She was limping when getting up and then running like a loony (as normal Rolling Eyes ) without limping, and then it came back again when she slowed down. Much paw licking too.

Advice from peeps on here was to get to the vets and have it checked out as it can be any number of things, serious or not so, but in any event might be made worse by more running about untreated. I took her, and she has a slight sprain in her first bendy joint above the paw. Probably from leaping about like a loony!

Anti-inflams and Rimadyl, and minimal exercise should sort it. But if it had been a ligament or something else, it could have easily got worse.

Not sure if that helps, but it does sound similar. Maybe best just to get it checked asap?

Mary also suggested checking for foreign bodies or cuts, which I did but obviously there weren't any ...

Good luck and let us know how you get on
Cally

More than likely she has just twisted/sprained something...or trodden on something sharp....But do keep an eye on this, especially if she is stiff after resting.

I know if Mojo's elbows are a bit sore she licks her legs and feet and limps when walking on hard ground (which incidently is worse if we are going down hill).

Chances are Mia will be fine in a couple of days time, but if she isn't then a trip to the vets may be in order. Wink

oh poor Mia Sad

Are her nails really long? just wondered if they were hurting her and after a long walk, her foot was hurting more than usual and thats why she's limping??? Do your vets offer to clip nails for free? i know some do or they charge very little Confused unless you don't mind doing it yourself Very Happy

Sorry i haven't been very helpful but i'm sending lots of ~~~~healing vibes~~~~ to Mia xxx

Ohh just to say....even when Mojo's elbows were really bad it didn't stop her running about like a loon...I think the adrenaline rush they get just over rides any pain. Rolling Eyes

Tis nerve-wracking though! I nicked one of Asha's a few months ago and came on here in a panic cos it was bleeding ALL over the place Embarassed

Cotton bud and vaseline treatment recommended worked a treat to stop the bleeding, but poor little Ashpants was not AT ALL happy with me Embarassed

Good luck with it - nibbling is the best idea!

Hi, Tilly too has had this limp on the front right side, had it checked out as we noticed it only after she had been lying asleep on it or after a good run about. Vets sid she might have caused slight damage during early development stages of growing and she is now on synoquin once a day. Think its like a joint suppliment, we also tend to have longer walks in a lovely forest by us rather than a manic running session. Although she does still occasionaly do this which is hard to stop! Laughing

Oh also we pop a cod liver oil capsule in her food once a day too
