After Dexters leg issue I have been for some time consdering giving him G&C supplements especiallu=y now after yesterday but beacuse he is also large for his breed anyway so more weight on his joints.
Carroll,
Lenny is on Synoquin sprinkle capsules. I am not recommending that you use these but I can give you the composition and that should give you an idea of the dose you would need for Dexter. BTW, we get these from the vet but only because insurance is paying at the moment. Next year I will certainly be buying his supplements on line, probably from Holland and Barrett. Synoquin costs £90 for 120 capsules. Absolute rip off but I won't start on that subject just now, grrr.
Lenny's current dose is two capsules per day however, for the first month, he took what is called a loading dose which was four capsules a day.
Lenny weighs 56Kg. I hope this will give you an idea of how much Dexter should need.
Lenny is 8 years old, gosh, almost 9, which is getting on a bit for a large dog. How old is Dexter?
I wish I had known about this years ago because I would have started it sooner. In fact I have been meaning to buy some for Zoe. Now this should prompt me to getting it organised.
I know that Rimadyl has helped Lenny alot this last year but since being on the Synoquin, he really has come on in leaps and bounds........literally. OK, some of that has to be with getting Zoe. Just to give you an idea, he could not get up from lying for several minutes and stairs were a real struggle. Now he has a new lease of life and charges around like a nutter.
You could goole Synoquin to get the dose for Dexters weight. Ah that reminds me. The website showed the RRP of £60 per pot. My vet charges me £90. I'm sure Tesco must know the costs?????No, I said I would not get started on that subject, LOL.
I feed my dogs on Skinners Field Trial Duck and Rice because it has Glucosmine and Chondroitin added. The Salmon and Rice also contains these two supplments.
I believe that Chudleys add these supplmenets to some of their food but you'd need to check on the websites to find out just how much is in each mix.

I use the human form as well - and whether this is coincidence or not I don't know - but I see a totally different effect using a version which includes Vitamin C and using MSM as well
A lady at one of the labrador rescues I was talking to said that her vet had recommended these as being as good as the ones he dished out but a fraction of the price - I had Sam on them when he developed arthritis and noticed a significant improvement...
