My latest house visitor has a very niffly trick of opening doors and I knowing that Becs trains her pups to open doors I was wondering what comand was best to use and how to go about turning this around to use it to my benefit Confused

Hi Louise,
Assistance dogs mostly have rope with a ball on the end tied to the door handles. Then you just use 'pull pull' as the command for them to open the door. I start teaching it by getting them to pull on a tuggy on command and releasing on command. Be warned though......Some dogs can be a tad over-enthusiatic opening doors- I remember when Dudley started doing it the entire door frame would, such was his vigour!!!! Laughing
If you want them to close the door you'll need to teach them the 'push' command,

hope this helps,
Becs and the Gang

Struth!!! Are you sure you want to teach your pup to open doors? Shocked Our neighbour has a red setter that can open evvery door in the house, including the front door so apart from scratched doors, they're having to fit locks on the inside doors (AND get the kids to remember to lock them!!) Great trick if he only does it on command......
