How could she have cashed your cheque if she didn't have your details? did you enter on-line? I do believe the entries through dog.biz and fosse data go directly to the printers rather than the secretary.
If I am entering a show through the post, I always put a SAE in to confirm receipt - much less worrying in the long run.

Hi Sue she is not sure how it happened but it has to a couple of people it was a postal entree if the cheque had not cleared then it would of been lost in the post, but thankfully the chq had cleared from the bank im glad i rang something was telling me to ring to check the entree. From now on im going to take a copy of any payments made just in case imagine going all that way for nothing with no proof you haven't got a paw to stand on

If you include an SAE - you will know immediately if your entry has been received

Hi both - just seen this posting. With my Show Secretaries hat on this is reasonably common. I always send a SAE with any entry and when it is returned I staple it to the schedule. Keeping a copy of the cheque is not much use if it is never cashed.
The Kennel Club requirement is for a certificate of posting - you were lucky the payment had gone through - this is not always the case.
If you arrive at a show where the entry has not been received the secretary can take your entry on the day and you have to pay again but if you fail to produce a certificate of posting to the KC any awards you win may be taken away and this will appear in the Kennel Gazette. If you have a returned SAE or Cert of Posting with you then the secretary can be satisfied the entry was indeed sent. Cert of Postings are free and you can list several entries on one form so it's easy enough.
As you say it would have been awful if you had turned up - even as you say if the cheque had cleared I am sure it would have made it quite stressful.
