Millie is on about day 10 of her season. Her blood loss seems to be easing up today - however Doobie (who is neutered) will not leave her alone! She is VERY flirty with him (tart!) and keeps posturing (I assume it is, she swings her tail out and to the side) and all Doobs wants to do is hump her. I am watching them like a hawk all the time at the mo, and have even had to seperate them as it got a bit too close for comfort. Can he still tie with her even though he has been neutered? (I know, maybe silly question but I have no experience of all this) and when it comes to night time, would it be better to seperate them?

I shall be so glad when she has finished her season as I want to get back to normal! Poor Doobs is going around all mopey at the mo as he must be so confused by Millies behaviour!

I THINK, and I don't think I made this up although I may well have! - that a tie can occur with a neutered male. I think I read this somewhere and wasn't overly surprised. Obviously no sperm would be transferred (assuming Doobs has been 'done' a while).

I'm sure you'll get a more definite answer from someone more experienced than me but I think it can happen.

Good luck! Naughty, flirty girl! (not you, Millie Embarassed )

Yes they can tie Sonia, I've seen it happen Rolling Eyes .

I'd say it would be better to seperate them, otherwise you could have quite a bit of explaining to do to your kiddies, while Doobs and Millie are stuck together for 20 -40 mins Embarassed Rolling Eyes .

Poor Ol' Doobs I bet he's really confused Rolling Eyes .

Philippa is right Sonia, they can tie if Millie is willing and it sounds like she is!!, I experienced this with Cindy and terrier I owned some years back.

Has Doobs been done 6 months or more, I believe up to that time they can still produce enough sperm to produce pups Confused

Someone more in the know can confirm or otherwise Smile

I know there is no chance of accidents as we adopted Doobs almost a year ago now (he was 14 months then) and was already neutered. Its just behaviour we really don't want especially because of the children but also its hard work trying to keep them off each other all the time. Obviously we cant keep them seperated the whole time but we are here with them all the time at the mo anyway, its just during the night and early morning as they aren't allowed upstairs.

Poor Gracie is getting some very early education at the mo! (and she's only a little baby!!!!)

Hi sonia, this does not mean her season is finishing... it actually means she is at her peak for mating, ovulating... and will be very eager to mate with any male in a 5 mile radius Shocked .... this can last for around 5 days or so...possibly easing off.. but be very vigilant for at least another 15days...

yes he can tie with her... and please keep them seperated at all times when you are not with them... I would still keep them seperated anyway... its so unfair on the poor dog....

The danger is not with getting pregnant, since he is castrated, but the dangers of any accidents which can seriously damage dog or bitch, or even both... If a tie happens and you are not around to help, usually takes 2 people.... and the tie gets broken unnaturally, the dog can sustain serious injuries, and so can the bitch....

Wow! Thanks Kay - you have told me things I really didn't know about. Quite an eye opener!

We are trying to keep them apart as best as we can but its difficult when downstairs (living room and dining room anyway) is open plan and really don't want to take inturns locking one of them away. I just watch them all the time! Even if I have to nip to the loo (lol) I will put one of them in the kitchen with the door shut if OH isn't around. Luckily he is off work at the moment so there is always one of us here to keep a beady eye on them.

I will be so glad when its over then a few months later we shall spay her (which we assumed she was anyway).

Then there is Gracie who will go has to go through it..... Rolling Eyes

even crating they will need to be in seperate rooms... a determined bitch and dog WILL mate and tie through the bars of a crate.... I know there is no risk of pregnancy... but they dont... animal instincts will take over Wink
