Hiya everyone,

While looking for answers to Q's I have been asked regarding BG Algae, I have become alarmed by the number of recent, even today, health warnings gone out to the general public.

Makes sense I guess the weather and conditions are a haven for the algae.

So, please use this thread to add any new areas you hear about and if everyone checks their local council website and warnings in force will be there.

First, here is a link containing all info you should need with an excellent pic of the nasty stuff. ( pdf file )

http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/Doc/46922/0024256.pdf

So, from Fife council - Fife are advising the public and pet owners to avoid touching or drinking the water at Kinghorn Loch in central Fife after tests confirmed contamination with blue-green algae.

Clings Water in Clousta, Shetland - samples taken, still to be confirmed

Obviously and sadly we have....River Tay at Balmerino

Hiya Kimberely,

Yes absolutly, anyone who sees blue / green algae MUST inform their council so they can, test, confirm and get warning alerts out on the net, newspapers and notice boards. It is these that warn local dog owners etc to avoid the area...without the alerts...well.... Sad

Fruitbat..thanks for making this post a sticky......it could save a dogs life.... Wink Very Happy

I had a look on Northumbria councils website but couldn't find anything about the algae.
I'll ring them on Monday morning and let them know they have dangerous algae lurking in their waters! Shocked
Thanks!!
