Hi all I just have to share this with someone, so here goes. ....
I've been reading with interest about raw food etc and have been wanting to feed Jet this way, he's 16 weeks now. I mentioned it at work and was delighted to find out one of my colleagues feeds her pyrenean mountain dogs BARF. She has proved to be an absolute mine of information and being so close by has given me the confidence to Change Jets food. This evening I gave him his first ever chicken wing (whilst holding the phone in the other hand incase he choked) He looked up at me with his big puppy eyes and his whole body was wagging with delight. He didn't know what to do with himself and just carried his prize round in his mouth for ages. I eventually put him in his crate where he settled down to some serious crunching. I can safely say he loved it! I need not have worried about him and really wish I'd had the confidence to start him off sooner Very Happy

I agree, I never had the confidence before. Was totally brainwashed about bones getting stuck in throats etc.

Mine love meat and chicken wings etc, it gets them far more excited that kibble ever did. Tonight they are having their first turkey drumsticks. Can`t wait to see what they make of them. The chicken doesn`t touch the sides, but the turkey is a lot bigger, so I`ll let you know how they get on.

I went to see my local butcher today. We're so lucky to have a proper butchers shop in our local parade of shops. When I went in I was a bit nervous of asking him about stuff for Jet but he was brilliant. I bought a bag of fresh front-end chicken carcasses,10 in there and really meaty, and a huge marrow bone which he sawed into three for me and a whole rabbit. All these delights came to the princely sum of £2.50. I don't know who is more delighted me or Jet!
The Butcher is brilliant and doesn't think I'm mad at all. I think I'm going to be a very happy regular customer from now on. Very Happy

Well done Gnome!, Jet will love you even more for feeding him the way nature intended, i have a friend who`s just starting her GSD on raw as well after me singing its praises in reference to C&CJ, she to was worried about the bone aspect, but her dog is doing well and of course loving his new meals Very Happy

You`ve done well to find a real butcher, bargain you got as well I think!, as you get more from him and become regular, you`ll probably get it cheaper to Very Happy

On the butcher subject. Went into my local one today to see if I could anything to tied the boys over until the Landywoods delivery comes, but was told that they are not allowed to sell anything like that.

Suppose they have to send it back to places like Landywoods, what a shame and a waste if it does in fact go in the bin. I`m just wondering if it is because I live in a London Borough and red tape rules apply.

It`s so annoying though!!!!! Evil or Very Mad

I've been told it's fine to freeze it so that's what I've been doing, I "open" freeze most of it on trays then put it into plastic boxes in the freezer so I can just take out a bit at a time. It's a bit time consuming to start off with but it's been a bit easier that way as I'm not the most organised person in the world and I don't have to think about the whole week, I just choose a little selection for him each evening ready for the next day, he's loving it Very Happy

We also ventured out for the day to a preserved railway, I just took some frozen chicken wings straight from the freezer and they were just nicely defrosted at lunchtime, mind you Jet's lunch did cause quite a few comments from other people. Most of them thought I'd gone mad Rolling Eyes He enjoyed it though, and proved them wrong when he didn't choke to death Exclamation
