I had the renewal through from Petplan for M-M's insurance. Ouch.

I took the top policy with them for the first year as they'll let you downgrade the policy but not upgrade it.

I've been chatting to them this morning about moving to the next policy down.

Currently we have £12k per year cover for vets fees. If I move her down to the standard policy, that drops to £6k per year and we'd save £5 a month, which doesn't seem a huge saving on the premium given the vet bill cover halves?

Am having a think about what to do as I would like to pay less but am aware of the huge bills some people have faced and am wondering if £6k would be enough Confused

insurance is such a gamble isn't it??? We try and save a few pounds a month but never know when you'll need to claim.Lily's got HD and had TPO ops on both hips and it cost £6,000 for both ops. That's all my money gone for that condition now i'm with direct line and get £6,000 per condition so praying things don't go wrong.I'd reccomend getting the best policy you can afford (just in case). But there again i am a belt and braces person and always look on the negative side.

Well....

Tara's bills have already topped £4000, luckily enough its been discovered that she has 2 seperate conditions, but we are only covered for £6k Per illness or injury for life.. I am stuffed really as she is only 7 months old and one condition is congenital and for life and the other can be reoccuring Shocked

Thanks for your thoughts flower

Ouch Nat!

£5 isn't a huge amount, but £37 a month is a fair bit, especially when you have four dogs - and the drop of £6k in vet fees covered per year seems a lot for saving a fiver.

Having read your replies and thought about it, I think we'll stick with the higher policy for the time being. M-M's 15 months old now and £12k for vet fees seems tons - and hopefully won't be needed - but 3-4 years down the line, I guess £12k won't cover what it will now. Both policies are for vet fees per year.
