Our black 6 yr old lab has no sign of OCD or HD and our 9 month old choc lab has no signs either.
I must admitt I didn't know what OCD was until I read the artical. Like Dexter (dexterslab) our 12 yr old Lab went lame on his front leg and his 'wrist' was swollen. Took him to the vets and they said he had an infection and put him on antibiotics and complete rest. He was fine untill a few days ago, I shall take him back to the vets and ask about OCD.

Rest assured Janet, at 12 years old it will not be OCD. It could be an infection as your vet thinks, it could be arthritis (But that would not come on suddenly) or it could of course be a broken bone. There are a number of small bones down there which are easily broken.
Only joint problem was hock, injury at 5 months which has not had any effect on hips but has caused the bones in right hind leg not to grow properly and now that leg looks a little cow hocked from behind.
Waiting in anticipation Julie on this one cant wait to see the result.
Clyde has Elbow Dysplacia but on x-rays there was no sighn of ocd like many of the labs on the forum have will be keepong an eye on this.

Yes, it isn't quite so rare to have OCD in other joints than elbow - e.g. hocks. But as these joints are not routinely screened the number of cases is just a wild guess.
Black girl has 10:8 hips, 0:0 elbows
Her hip score was a bit of a disappointment as both parents were much lower and I was very careful with her as a pup. However, she's a very active girl and has never shown any lameness....fingers crossed it'll stay that way!)
Just to get that score into perspective Briar, no it's not that good but it could be a lot worse. her score is only 3 marks above the Breed Mean Score and if you look at the latest BMS for the Golden Retriever for example, it is one mark worse than your dog at 19!! So had she been a Golden Retriever instead of a Labrador you would have been rubbing your hands with glee!
10/8 is quite an even score and provided the marks for individual features is reasonably even then you should have no troubles.

The above two are half sisters, same father different mother...mother of the black had lower score than mother of yellow, grandparent were similar as were 4th and 5th gen on both side

Black female 2:3 daughter of the yellow 5:6 and neice to black female 48:48 Ellie

Yellow female 3:3 (Rosie) (puppy farmed and rescue)
The 2 lowest scoring black bitches are my own breeding. and althoughI am maintaining (hopefully improving) the breed standard my goal is to achieve 0:0 hips and elbows. But as with the 1st two dogs shown, It is not always so simplistic. I do know for a fact that environmental issues did not help the score of Penny, I got her back at just over a year old, double the weight she should have been and allowed complete freedom of excersise, ie jumping of the back of sofas etc, but I have to conceed that there was possible hereditary HD there in the 1st place. By 18months her x-rays showed severe arthritic growths already formed and no hip sockets.
