I had vaguely heard this eomewhere before, and think it may have been from browsing the forums. It is scary. There are some still ponds on one of our walks, but they are next to a small road through a farmyard with a field of sheep nearby, so Charlie has to be on the lead at that point anyway.

Stagnant puddles do concern me a bit, as he seems drawn to them like a magnet. Fortunately I have never seen this algae on any of the ones he has managed to sneak a drink from so far.

Helen.

I have only just read this post, and it's scary Exclamation
I was wondering about garden ponds. We have a very small fish pond and waterfall, and sometimes this horrid green, stringy, slimy stuff coats the waterfall. I have to pick is off to remove it, but it come back again reall fast.
Jack is very attracted to this and despite trying to stop him climbing up it, I know he does when my back is turned or I'm indoors, sometimes I know just by looking at his nose - it's green, yuk Rolling Eyes

I'm quite concerned now, could this be harmful to him Question

BlueGreen Algae usually forms in still water that has little or no movement I believe, I don`t think garden ponds will have it in/on because they usually have a pump for waterfalls such as yours or for fish that may reside in it Smile

Lots of Algae are harmless and I'm sure the one you have in your pond is more than likely a Filament type, like Spirogyra, which is a nuisance more than anything else.

Blue-Green algae, sits on the surface like a scum and if you get it on your skin, it is intensely irritating.

Have a read here...... Blue Green Algae
