Welcome to LF.
Well done for giving Bliss a home and working so hard with her.
I think I can see how a lab/collie cross might possible resemble a flatcoat in some ways.
I too have heard of a number of labs who can't be bothered retrieving. I think they might be mostly from showlines rather than working, but there can always be the exception to the rule.
Charlie plays occasionally with my neighbour's BC if we meet in the fields. You can see from the way the BC runs around him that she could be "herding" him. I can also see from the way Charlie wants to run directly up to the BC and just wants to jump around and tussle that labs would be poor herders (well, mine would be anyway ).
I see collies in our obedience doing retrieves though, so maybe it can be taught over time. I don't know how long it took them to get it right.
Helen.

How good it is to hear of your work with Bliss. Well done for giving her a home, and it really sounds as if she's getting the affection and stimulation to make her a happy dog.
We'd love to see some more pics when you can, very best wishes

Thank you all but Bliss rescued me really rather than the other way around. I was in a desperate state after suddenly losing my beloved border collie Sas (RIP my little girl). After some time collie rescue suggested going to see some collie crosses at a local shelter. Bliss was the first dog I saw. Such is her temperament that she'd continually wagged her tail against the concrete of the stable block she was kept in, and the end was injured and bleeding. And then I looked into those big brown lab eyes ... !!
All your photos are beautiful. I only discovered this site yesterday - have just found those little Thanks buttons a minute ago - will try to upload some pics tonight.
