Hi Guys
i have been looking into getting Cassie chipped this morning and thought i would give the S.S.P.C.A a call and i was asking about cheap rates for pensioners and ppl on benifits. They have a new policy that they dont do reduced rates but they have brought the price down to £15.00 for everyone.. i called for vets and they ranged for £19.99 right up to £35.99... so cassie is off tomorrow to get chipped by the SSPCA and profit goes to them so we will do a little bit for the other dogs n cats awell.. hope it is of some use to someone .

£35.99 seems a bit steep for something that takes less than 2 mins to do!!!, maybe it includes lifetime registration and change of address etc, the ones I`m with I have to pay £10 each time I move, which with 3 cats and 3 dogs makes it expensive
Not that I move that much!, just in process of finding a house and LL`s, seem to want to rent their properties to students, makes them more money, but means I have to move

I didn't know the SSPCA did that. That's good in both price and donation terms. I know they struggle getting donations sometimes as people automatically think RSPCA donations go to them, but they don't.

Hi Mary
I have a feeling that our local PDSA vet centre offers discounted chipping and I know that a number of local councils offer discounted services.
I noticed your comment about charges for moving; My chipping (from memory) cost about £20 / £25 and is registered with Petlog.
Petlog (you can find out more info on the Kennel club website).
They do a lifetime membership, where instead of paying each time you move, you can pay £15 and make free changes for life (although this is probably per registration) - the following microchip manufacturers are covered under the scheme
Bayer (Tracer)
PetID
Identitrack
Pet detect
Allflex
Peddymark
Petcode
Datamars
Eezytrac
Tag all
The service will also make your details available to the proper agencies if your dog goes missing while you are on holiday.
Sue

I know that occasionally Pets at Home have someone in (not sure if it's PDSA or SSPCA - up here anyway) and I know when we were looking into getting Penny chipped it was £9.99, but when we took her down they'd run out of chips and were going to have to come back another time!!! We got Penny chipped by the Vet but can't remember now how much it was I think about £15 but it's nearly two years ago now. So although it's not a constant service Pets at Home may have it on at a time to suit some.
