Ok so before we got Tonks we puppy proofed the garden or so we thought. The day after she came home she went outside crawled under the gate (no idea how tiny gap fixed now though) she had a poo just outside and then we saw her crawling back in, just got to teach her to go up to the field now.
WOW, sounds like you were really lucky there not to lose her , when they are that tiny they can get practically anywhere!!, you`ll have to watch her for digging under the fence in the future too .
Being the boring fuddy duddy here but you are so lucky Tonks came back.
We have an ongoing case of ' Lenny '. A true escapologist. He is an adult dog and a month ago decided to start escaping. Each time his owners were able to get him back but this time he clreared an 8ft fence to escape and has been missing now for 10 days
Possibly on one of his earlier trips out he ' had ' a bitch and now will do anything to get more !
Again sounding like a grump, but Julie posted yesturday about farmers / guns / lost dogs who innocently and inadvertantly turn left instead of right and find themselves in a farmers field and that could be that.
In this case it matters not whether a dog is chipped and tattooed and even has a banner on it with owners name and address, it won't help the outcome in a lot of cases
Tis impossible to watch them all the time and the only safe bet is to secure your garden, I understand this is a complete pain but is better to address than ever be in the position thinking " Wish I had done that "
So sorry for sounding like an old nagging bag, not intended, but my role in helping to ensure pups are safe and always at home is more important to me than being thought of as a PITA
Up here in the Islands we have less of a problem with thefts, shootings etc - but I would hate it if Brady ran up to the main road, he is not streetwise, and the unthinkable could happen so easily.
We do have to let him out the back, to relieve himself now and again , but every time I think the garden is secure, he goes and surprises me by finding some new way of getting out - right now he is obsessed with getting next door, as he has developed a taste for their cats food
So we are supervising him outdoors all the time for now, just to make sure he is safe
You keep nagging Rhoni, anything so long as it helps us get the message. I remember when we moved here, the garden looked secure, being primarily high fences and even higher trees and fences, but the little madam managed to follow cats trail into the neighbours garden (thankfully in a way we are surrounded by about 8 houses yet still have a private garden because of the way our house sits).
Thankfully the house she escaped into had a concrete wall and gated garden and her only means of escape was back into our garden. We have now double meshed that side of the garden and put blockages in between the mesh and the hedge, but I still get nervous when she starts sniffing around there
Well we really did think the garden was secure, I have dug chicken wire in at the bottom of the fence the whole way around the garden so there is no chance of digging out she is way to small to jump but I just overlooked the gate, I even did the stupid walking around the garden on hands and knees (much to the neighbours amusement) and I really thought I'd got everywhere. She was only outside for about a minute on her own whilst I got the poop sacks.
