I am interested in buying a spray collar with the citronella stuff in it to deter Herbie from eating dog/fox poo or any poo he can find over the fields when out on walks! I need something that I can use remotely. I've tried using a corrector spray with some effect, but it is only useful when Herbie is right near me. I am having to keep him on a 25ft extender lead, but I really want him to be able to run off-lead, but the poo eating is quite an issue.

Herbie is 5 and we've had him since he was 8 weeks old. He wants to eat poo when out on walks around the roads, but I can control him as he's on a lead.

I worm him every six weeks with Milbemax on the advice of the vet as he is at greater risk of catching worms Mad .

A muzzle cannot be used - we've already tried out. Too long a story, but a muzzle is out of the question!

So, if anyone has got a spray collar that they are no longer using, I am happy to buy it off you and pay for postage. New ones are over £100 Surprised .

One of mine is a dreadful poo-eater, but he has a lovely shine on his coat, is in rude health so I just try to look the other way and not gag when I see him do it Rolling Eyes I joke that he's just doing his bit for recycling! Shocked

Would you consider trying the collar just on the air-spray first? I think that, with a dogs acute sense of smell, citronella sprayed in the face must be horrendous for them.

Hi Becs,

Thanks for your post. I too regard Herbie's habit as "recycling" too! Wink I would try just the "hiss" of the spray first. I have tried using the pet corrector when he is close by and that certainly helps, but I think the collar will be useful when he is further away. If that fails, then I would resort to using the citronella part of the spray.

I don't know about your dog, but Herbie can walk right past a load of dog/fox poo, but others he pounces on and has a jolly good feast Mad ! I've heard that dogs like eating the poo from dogs that are fed cheap food, as the food pretty much goes straight through them and so dogs find the "end result" rather tasty! Oh yuck!!!
