There are two threads about this - i have put some advice in the other thread, mentioning file size as well as dimension size and offered to help the user sort it out. Hopefully she will see one of these messages.
I am so sorry it did not work. Like John I did not need to delete my old avatar it just replaced it for me.
Good point Debbie about file sizes and not one that I had taken on board in fact I did not even think about it! Just checked the file size of my avatar - as I am sad enough to have saved it in a special avatar folder - and can confirm that it is 36kb
Hope you get it sorted soon guys! I am sorry not to have been any help.
Most people dont check file sizes and just do the dimensions. I only know through doing my own forums and having to sort this out for many users before.
I am sure we will all get them sorted soon enough.
Bit long-winded but I opened mine in photoshop and changed the size there, saved it as a jpeg file then transferred it to Photobucket. Used the link for my avator. Didn't have to delete the old one first.

Hooray, all sorted now.
Once you know how to do it, it will seem really easy so you can change photo again in the future if you want to.
Glad you got it sorted now Ann. My guess is that you were over on the file size. Because .jpg files are compressed each time you save it the file get smaller, so by saving it again in Photobucket it could well have reduced the size enough to do the job. I think anyone having problems should look at the file size as the most likely source of the problem.
