Hi guys,

I was very curious to find out how much showing costs per year and how
this figure breaks down per show. Anyone keep tabs on what they
spend on this ?

Also, has anyone ever seen Sandylands Gentle Touch at Lembas in the ring?

Cheers
Angela

Hi Angela,

It depends which level you show at. Open shows usually have entry fees of around £6-£10 per dog for the first entry and usually £2 per second class entry. Champ shows are alot more expensive as the entry fee is around £22 per dog for the first class entry fee. Add to this the catalogue £3-£4, and your petrol, breakfast and lunch - it soon adds up! I have easily spent £100 on one Champ show:

ENTRY FEE'S x3 £66.00 (£22.00 for 1 dog)
CATALOGUE x1 £3.50
DIESEL (200 mile round trip) £45.00
FOOD FOR THE DAY £20-£30 (1 burger and 1 cup of tea can be £5.00, and the fact that my husband is a pig!!) Laughing
SHOPPING - I always try to take £10-£20

I have 3 dogs, and I choose who is going to which show. There is no way I could afford to show all mine at Champ show level on a regular basis. At the champ shows you will be competing against the best dogs in the country and class entries are usually between 13-35 especially for the bitch classes. I see who is Judging and might like my dogs, and then which dog should look good at the time of the show. I usually still have one out of coat or in season when my chosen show comes round, so have not gone and wasted entry fees!! Crying or Very sad

I am doing alot of Open shows this year, as I need to get more experienced at handling and I am alot more relaxed! Thet are really good for confidence building. Only if my dogs do well at lots of Open shows will I move them into Champ shows. Saying that I always do the Breed club champ shows each year.

Sandylands Gentle Touch at Lembas - I have seen him a few times. If he is who I think he is, he is Black. He is a nice dog.

Trace x

How long is a piece string? Laughing It depends how far you have to travel, te type of vehicle you have, if you need to stay overnight somewhere, how many dogs you take, if you take the family with you....The last show I went to by myself cost me the best part of 200 quid! This last weekend even more!

I tend to do open shows and a couple of championship shows and I have paid anything from £1.50 per entry - £4.00 for open shows + £1.50-£2 for the catalogu and it all depends on how many classes you enter. Championship shows-£22.00 per entry+£3-£4 for catalogue.... also some championship show will do eye testing as an extra(not sure on price) The petrol costs vary on how far you are going to be travelling.........I have seen me putting anything from £4-£25 in the petrol tank...at the moment I dont travel too far!!!!!
I dont do much in the way in shopping .......I have got the computor for that!!!
I save money on meals by taking sandwiches, rolls, fruit and a flask of coffee.

Oh yes and treats for the dogs when they are in the ring .....£1.00 Wink

I suppose the costs depend on how much you want and are prepared to put into dog showing..........some people do it for fun but others take it seriously!!!!!!!

If you want a another dog once you got started..........£300-£500 Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing

I am mad - my last show was a 700 mile trip (2.5 tanks of fuel c- £127, £50 in tolls), entry fee - approx £30 (inc cage and cataglogue and ticket for MOH to enter the show), £90 in overnight hotel inc dinner and breakfast. That's just one dog in one class! Shocked Still, got a nice freebie lead and a kennel plaque for my trouble!!

Thanks to all who replied. I guess I have learnt that showing is a bit
like anything else in life - there is no upper limit to what one can spend. However, at least I now know what basic entry fees cost.

Nicola, I imagine you have a secret addiction - to showing. Glad you and Blue are having fun. Are you planning to breed from her (think I read this in another thread).

Nope. just learning the hard way. I do hope to breed from her but we still have moubntains to climb before we get there. In France teh shows are few adn far between so I just have to travel a lot further to get to a show - same with anywhere in france. Still, at least most shows are 95% dual carriageway or motorway to get to them, so it's not so bad!
