Toby's brother, my dog, also named Toby he's got hip dysplasia and also one of his sisters also has hip dysplasia, which is a shame.
But 4/4 hip score is pretty good for a labrador, but it is said that parents with good hip scores are more likely to produce puppys with problems.
Were they "on" something when they told you that bit of info?
I can think of no reputable breeder that would agree with your statement.
Why do the Kennel Club recommend purchasing a puppy from Hip/elbow scored and eye tested parents......with a recommendation for hips to be below a total score of 15?
Hope I haven't offended anyone on here. By no means have I blamed the breeders for Dillons OCD. But knowing that the conditon is hereditary, when I made contact with them on 2 occasions I would hope that they would have acknowledged, I sincerely hope that they haven't bred from the same pairing again.
I'm pleased to hear of that Toby is doing so well, and yes I can see a resemblance, although Dillon was a yellow.
It's a real shame that the other 2 siblings are suffering with hip problems Fingers crossed that things work out for them.
I know of one reputable breeder, the one that told me this information and she breeds great danes.
But anyway doesn't matter. Nothing is said on the papers about the sire's hip scoring, probably hadn't been done, and his bad genes were passed to some of the puppies

Do you know who the sire's parents were? Most of the Whillanbeck dogs that have been hip-scored don't seem to throw up too many issues.
While it not a good idea to breed from untested stock, I can't really go into detail, but I would be inclined to be digging into the dams ancestors scores a little more. Are you aware that the hip score database for Labradors can be purchased from the KC for just £15

Sorry Redrose85, you have been told complete rubbish there! It would be like saying that if a person with perfect eyesight married another person with perfect eyesight the chances are any children would be blind!
There can be no guarantees that hips of puppies born to parents with good hips will also have good hips, but statistically the chances are that they will be good. I actually have the figures here to back that statement up, taken from an OFA (Orthopaedic Foundation for Animals) survey of over 30000 Labradors.
I've just said what i have been told. I wasn't saying that i believed it or not. I know the sire's name but, on Toby's papers it didn't say his hip score.
At the end of the day Toby's hips are bad and one of his sisters are too, it's probably just bad luck. But i won't love Toby any less because of his hips, even though he's going to cost me a fortune in the future.
