Hi Diana
Thanks for all your advice. You are quite right about the food intolerances, really not sure about breeding on more problems. As the vet said there are so many lovely dogs about I could get another instead. This has many appeals to and I have already got my eye on a litter being born in April. It may of course spark off divorce as I already have Pepsi and Cola (lab x collie) however it may just be worth it!!
Thanks again.

Grin... breeding is such a huge amount of heartbreak, worry and lack of sleep you have to weigh it all up. for example a bitch who just came to one of my stud dogs is owned by a lovely lady. She is well bred, good health scores etc.
She was easy to mate and had a relatively straightforward pregnancy. But whelping was absolutely horrendous and ended up in midnight poanics after 2 days with no sleep in the emergency room having a Csection. Only to end up with 5 puppies, then after a week she laid on one and sadly killed it inadvertantly... and with all this it was mentally, emotionally and financially draining and she has said she will never breed agains and really wishes she never had.
It could be worse, you could lose your bitch even, it is far more common to do so in dogs than in humans.
BUt thats is all worse case senario, but they are really real considerations. Bitches tend to need a lot of help whelping these days and i always set aside at least £1000 per litter for vets costs to mum and pups and usually spend a good deal of it.
That could buy you the most wonderful labrador puppy in the country!
Just a thought as you are undecided

Thanks again. All my nightmares. Just the thought of all that you mentioned makes me sad for those involved, I just can't imagine how horrid it would be. Buying a pup looks like a good option and more bloodlines to investigate!!
