Hi I have crossposted this from LL

Kipp has a burn from his gentle leader head collar, i think i left it on him to long Crying or Very sad
I've been putting neosporin on the two scabs beneath his eyes, and today a nice size scab came off. Kipp now has an open wound, i don't know what else to do for him. Any suggestions?

Hard to say without seeing the wound, I would assume it's more of a scuff or graze though than a deep wound requiring vet attention?

The main 2 things i would do are keep it clean and uncovered to speed up the healing process.
So no more gentle leader for a while and I use just a basic saline solution bathing the area twice a day to help eliminate infection.

Will the OP see reponses on here then? Confused

Edited to say:
I didnt know what neosporin was but just googled. I really wouldnt put this on a dog personally and definitely NOT near the eyes. Let nature do the healing process now would be my suggestion.

PS I have a feeling that's that horrid stuff my Gran once put on a cut i had - it stings like h*ll from memory.

I guess the poster's dog tends to pull into the gentle leader, just as Charlie often does.

I haven't had the problem of sores developing so can't advise there, but I am aware that they could. If/when the poster does go back to using a headcollar then I would suggest varying the typ they use regularly. They all have their pros and cons. I tend to chop and change between the halti, kumfi dogalter and the gentle leader, and I think this varies where pressure is applied just often enough to prevent problems (well, so far anyway, but we shall see).

Incidentally, I think I read that you can now get a padded halti, which might help. I haven't got one though, so read "untried by me" there. Very Happy

Helen.

HI!
NEW TO THIS FORUM SO DON'T KNOW IF I AM POSTING IN RIGHT CATEGORY.

I LOST MY BEAUTIFUL 4 1/2 YEAR OLD BLACK LABRADOR, GUINNESS, 13 WEEKS AGO DUE TO CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIA. I AM STILL DEVASTATED AND CAN'T MOVE ON UNTILL I FIND HIS SIBLINGS. Crying or Very sad
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TRACE HIS BREEDERS BUT THEY HAVE MOVED AND WE HAVN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANY OF HIS DOCUMENTS.

WE ADOPTED HIM FROM A BREEDER IN BARNSLEY,YORSHIRE.
HIS BIRTHDATE WAS 2/4/2007 AND IT WAS A LITTER OF 13 PUPS. ELEVEN YELLOW BITCHES ( I THINK THEY WERE ALL BITCHES ) AND TWO BLACK DOGS (MINE BEING ONE OF THEM).

I WOULD LOVE DEARLY TO TRACE ANY ONE OF THOSE PUPS TO SEE IF THEY ARE WELL.

IF YOU THINK YOU MAY HAVE A PUP FROM THIS LITTER OR KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS, PLEASE PLEASE COULD YOU CONTACT ME AND I WILL GET BACK TO YOU ASAP.

THANKYOU SO MUCH,
KIM Crying or Very sad
