Hi Everyone.

We've had Drake for two weeks now and he is gorgeous. He is really good at night, my other half takes him to work. My son who is 6 years old adores him and runs round the garden at night with him - my lawn is now a mud bath. I am going to try and download a photo to show you. He had his final injections on Friday so we can take him out in 2 weeks - can't wait. My mum thinks he is a substitute for a baby - if you saw my other half with him you would think so!

I am after some advice as well please - my inlaws have a female black lab (mum of Drake). She is lovely, fussy, playful and boisterous. My inlaws were given her and didn't realise what they were taking on. They then found out she was pregnant. They both work, she is outside and in a pen and they are starting to struggle with her. She hasn't been trained and pulls on the lead, jumps up - she is such a fusspot. They are in a dilemma at the moment as really she could do with being with someone who has the time to train her and give her the attention she needs.

We have thought about having her but are not sure - what influence will she have on Drake and she is rather hyper. She would be better with someone who is at home more and has the time. My inlaws aren't getting any younger and she has nearly pulled over my mother-in-law. With the time and effort she will be lovely. Sorry to ramble - any suggestions please.

Thankyou

Dee

P.S Not managed to get a photo of Drake on here - can you point me in the right direction of how to do that please? Thankyou - can you tell I am a novice.

Aww wow congrats on your pup and welcome to the forums!
You are allowed to take your pup out after 10 days not 14 if that makes difference.
As for the other dog i cant really give dvice as only have 1 myself but if i was put in your situation i would have to say NONO as your little pup needs you right now and having a mis behaved and mum about cant be good.
Also the poor thing is stuck in a pen allday, if i was her i would be potty too having no TLC,im no expert but some of her hyper behaviour will come from lack of attention. If there is no-one there to tell her what is right and wrong it will turn into a naughty dog as would a child.
Why did your parents take this dog on knowing they would have no time to care for it?
Sorry if that sounds rude but a dog needs attention and care or they go off the rails !
I wish you the best of luck with your new pup and hope you have a great life together

Hi,

Thanks for your reply - my thoughts exactly, no its not rude. With our pup we can train him and my partner spends time with him in the day and we all do at night. I think the mum would be too much for us.

We are going to try and find a new home for her, she has the potential to be a lovely dog and like you say she just needs some TLC. I have nipped round there this morning and she looks sad. She has had a lack of attention which has caused her pulling and jumping up.

We are really enjoying Drake and I am sure there is someone out there who can enjoy his mum. She is only 20 months old so she is still a youngster herself.

Thanks again

Dee X

Aw how sad for your in-laws and the bitch Sad

I would definitely say No to taking her on as I think that's just a recipe for disaster...but definitely look into re-homing her as she obviously needs a lot of TLC, attention, exercise etc and as your in-laws can't give her this then she may as well be someone who can and also I suspect that having her is going to stress your parents out...

Not sure how you go about re-homing her but am sure someone will come on and point you in the right direction...

I don't think you can put photos up unless you subscribe to the forum which I would heartily recommend even just for help with the puppy (but also for help with re-homing Mum)...

xx
