Most people are familiar with the Labrador retriever and its well documented breed standard. There are at least two lesser known variants of the breed. One is the Labradorable receiver.
The Labradorable receiver could do very well in the Labrador retriever conformation ring. This animal is stuck in perpetual puppy mode. It enjoys cuddles, walks and being close. It absorbs attention. It is in field trials, houses and gardens that one discovers the true breed. Retrieving is not in the genes of the Labradorable receiver. What ever is tossed will be kept or after a sniff, ignored. That is unless a Labrador retriever is present. The Labradorable receiver is fast and enjoys taking whatever has been thrown away from the Labrador retriever.
My Misty is a Labradorable receiver. She waddled into our lives at a rescue open house. We were looking for a young adult male when Misty walked over to Wife, leaned against her leg, slid down and rolled over to have her belly scratched. Misty has always enjoyed walks and receiving attention.
“Dork” is U.S slang for a silly person, or person using flawed logic. A Labradork is the canine equivalent. Like the Labradorable receiver, the Labradork masquerades as a Labrador retriever. dorks are likable, lovable goofs who inevitably brighten the days of its family. Jack is a Labradork. You know you have a Labradork when:
• The six toys in the middle of the room won’t do- it has to be the toy out of reach under the couch
• Convinces the spouse he/she has yet to be fed, when in fact he/she has just finished eating.
• The middle of the night is a great time to instigate a game of fetch. By jumping up on the bed and dropping the ball on the nose of the human.
• He/she insists he/she is just a little bundle of love that needs to be in somebody’s lap. Even though he/she weighs in excess of 75 pounds. Sometimes referred to as the Lapador retriever.
• Even though the ball has been played with for months, after the first retrieve of the day the ball appears to speak or otherwise spook the dog into not touching it ever again.
• He/she uses a particular path to go in one particular direction and not in the other direction, to the point he/she will back up and take a different path to return.
• Even though he/she *loves* going for a swim, going outdoors in the rain is unthinkable, and will stop them dead in their tracks in the doorway.
• Having been in constant sight for the past three hours, when put into the back seat of the vehicle, will jump to the front seat and greet you at the open door as if you have been away for months.
Be it a retriever, a Labradorable receiver, or a Labradork, they all make wonderful companions.

an excellent post labdad ,
hmmm lets see Bradley must be a Labradorabledork as he exhibits many of the sub species actions, he is 'sometimes' the best / fastest retreiver in the world, however other days he wont budge to fetch anything ,
He craves attention most days and other days wont give you the time of day that is unless a piece of paper 1/2 mile away is rustled and then he is up and running as he assumes it must of course be a snippet of a treat for him
He has regularly taken up a butting posture in that if toys are spread casually around the interior of our motorhome he suddenly decides that the one he really, really wants to play with is under your seat and runs headlong into you to make you move out of the way
He finally loves swimming and strains at the leash at the slightest indication that the sea or a lake etc or even a small puddle is nearby, however if you decide that he smells a bit niffy and make any signs of preparation of shower time for pooch he suddenly tries to make himself as small as possible in a corner somewhere.
ah but we love him
