Hi, I`m still on my quest to try and find a food combination that results in firmer stools. Not a nice subject I know.

I was wondering if any of you feed tripe to your dogs. I know people who do that swear by it. I know that it is not a very pleasant off-shot from the slaughter business, but it is supposed to be very good food for dogs.

If you do feed tripe, how do you feed it, on it`s own or mixed with either mixer of complete food? Do you buy the frozen kind, what do you all think? Any advice good or bad would be welcome.

Yes my lot get tripe, on average 3 days per week... either freeflow frozen.... or fresh green tripe, which I can get whole from the Abattoir.....

I dont mix anything with it, as they are fed on a raw diet anyway.... and it is better if not mixed with any processed kibble....raw and cooked are digested at differing rates.... also... since kibble is a balanced whole meal in itself, you will be upsetting this balance....

So for the frozen stuff then, do you defrost it? If so, how long for and how much do you give?

I did feed mine tripe as youngsters. They loved it . Unfortunately my old girl will only eat it cooked and it stinks the house out, so I changed from that once Mojo was bigger.

I just used to defrost it until it reached room temp and feed however much they'd eat. Not much help I know...I've never been one for weighing and measuring Rolling Eyes .

I buy in bulk.... 30 packs to a box and the packs are 1lb each.... I usually defrost overnight and feed a pack each... 1lb per dog per meal.... Tia getting a little more as her metabolism is faster.....Emma a little less as she is the most sedentary.... you will be able to judge for yourself after a while Smile

But during the summer months on really hot days, I quite often feed frozen, only taking it out the freezer a couple of hours before feeding....Tripe ice-lollies Very Happy

If you want to feed it warm...you dont need to cook it... simply boil a kettle and pour boiling water over it while frozen.... the heat thaws the tripe, while the frozen tripe cools the water.... mix up well with a fork, and dog has a warm, but still raw meal Smile

Just to say that my boys now have tripe, minced chicken etc now. Am slowly getting them onto a raw diet and they are loving it. Still have some kibble to use up, so am alternating it, but once thats gone am putting in an order to landywood for a totally BARF diet.

My quest for firmer poos is at an end, they seem to be a lot easier to clean up after now they are having RMBs.

I never thought that I would feed raw food, but once you see how much the dogs really enjoy it, you`ll be hooked.

I feed tripe also. I am one of the few who has found an ideal supplier that we buy from at wholesale price........and its green. I also at times feed it minced which I buy in boxes of 30 individually packed in 454g bags.
