we pick bailey up sat morning. we still arent certain what to feed him. the breeder feeds him chudleys (?) for one meal a day, then he gets chicken/tripe/beef etc for other meals. obviosuly to start with we will keep in on the same to make transition as good as poss. in the puppy pack that we got on last visit was a box of pedigree puppy complete food, so we will give this a try a too. will it just be a case of trial and error? we would like to use complete food for convenience as we camp alot and go away alot. however we would also like to give him fruit/veg and meat as much as poss while at home, to keep him healthy and give him a varied diet.

any thoughts/recommendations etc?

also how long will he eat puppy food for, before we move up to junior and then adult?

thanks, all opinions greatfully recieved Smile

Most people move their pups from puppy food to adult at around 6 months, I did this with Corbie. Depends what you feed as to whether there is a 'junior' version.

Not sure about the food - I just kept Corbie on what his breeder had him on as he was doing well on it.

I feed Chudleys to Charlie and it appears to agree with him, this is a complete dog food and is reasonably priced.

Good Luck for Saturday.

Phoebe is on a complete raw diet and is thriving well on it Very Happy so that's raw meat and raw bones plus a handful of veg thrown in here and there but not part of her staple diet. She also has supplements etc.

I'd be careful feeding a mix of raw and complete food because although you said you felt it was good to give them a varied diet, it can quickly turn into a very unbalanced diet and they can become nutritionally deficient Sad

Kayc is the expert on raw feeding and although she is offline for a few days she will be back and I'm sure will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

www.landywoods.co.uk and select the "BARF diets" tab on the left - this is a story about a woman who started feeding raw and realised that a mixed complete food and BARF diet was damaging her dogs' health Sad

Good luck with whatever you decide to feed little Bailey - can't wait to see the pics when you get him home btw Very Happy

i feed Ruby burns its a holistic food and she is VERY happy on it - it has the reputation of being pricey and it can be if you have a dog witha fast metabolism a 15kg bag is £35 you feed 20g per kg of food per day for puppies and 10g per kg of food for adults - a bag last me around 2 months which is a fiver a week - roughly.

Burns_web-site have a look
