We've covered Baileys crate with an old throw - what with the mornings being lighter now I think it just gives him an extra half an hour. The whole crate isn't covered, just the top, back panel and end of it, so where the two 'doors' are - they're still exposed. It just makes it a bit snuggely for him aswell. Wink

In regards to the sleep. as I said each pup varies greatly - like children, they'll settle through the night when they're ready. It is hard with the wimpering, you almost have to have a steel heart but Jessie will soon learn that no-one will come down to her.

Good luck!

Looks like we are in the same position, it was my pups third night last night.

On his first he was great, only made noise at about 6am the second night was just like yours... and last night (although I was that tired i must have slept through some of it) was the same, he seemed to cry in short but frequent bursts

I'm the softee at home so I want to go down, just don't - it'll only make the problem worse and allow it to continue. Make sure when you do go down in the morning he is quiet and never go down while he is crying out. when you greet him leave the 'good boy' and just give him lots of fuss.

They just need to get used to know you ARE going to come back to them

good luck!

Ahhhh poor you. Their little sad sounds are heart wrenching Crying or Very sad ! We got up with Sacher on her first 3 nights but after that, we realised she wasn't getting the difference between night and day so when we settled her, we turned the radio off which was on all day and turned all the lights off apart from a night light and we didn't hear her at all and haven't had to get up to her since. I think once your pup gets used to the idea that you are going to come back to her, nights will get easier. Remember to wait until there is a break in crying before entering the room or you will be rewarding her crying by coming back and that would make it worse.
Hope that ramble helps a bit Confused and good luck tonight. let us know how you get on!

Hi

hope Jessie is getting better for you through the nights. The only thing that i did which i dont think has been mentioned is i put a hot water bottle (obviously in a fleecey cover ) in Abbeys crate with her at night and she really snuggeled up with it , i wrapped it in an old towel too !
I think i was lucky cos ive never had any probs at night time. we did all the other things too light on,radio on etc.

Good luck

Yes, thats a great idea Very Happy We may have to source one, my mother-in-law suggested it yesterday.

We'll try the old scented clothes first, using the hot-water bottle as plan B Cool

I sympathise completely. I brought my new choc lab puppy home 5 days ago. He's not been too bad so far from the sounds of things. He goes to bed in his crate and then wimpers/howls/sings in fact quite loudly about 5.30ish, I normally try and brave it out, then he has been stopping after about 10 minutes and then waking me up again at about 6.30 - 7am. So I guess I can't complain. Am more worried about when I go back to work on the 24th April. He's ok being left when he's asleep, but if he wants to play and I try and leave him he won't stop bless him.... He's such a cutie it breaks my heart when I hear him!! ANy tips for when I go back to work - grateful!

Hi and welcome to the forum Very Happy
My "new Pup" is 5 months old and huge Shocked this is his 3rd day with us so we're still getting him settled at night.hes never lived in a house before, only ever outside so he is just getting used to it.
we've had a few crys and wimpers from him at night but I have told other half to ignore him and it will stop but hes worried about the neighbours so sits on the stairs until he stops Rolling Eyes (we have a nice bottle of wine for neighbours waiting just in case)
Your pup will hopefully stop eventually, just don't give in Wink
Good luck and enjoy Very Happy

Ah, bless them all!

Sounds like they're all doing really well. It will settle down, I think Baxter cried (actually, screamed) for two nights before he settled in. Now he'll happily lie in til about 9ish at the weekend!
Just remember they've gone from being all snuggled up with loads of brothers and sisters to all on their own Sad It's no wonder they're scared.

hi Sarah Lou - Ruby is a nightmare sleeper but always been good as gold when we leave her - she has been left for 4 hours at a time since she was 9 weeks old. She is a lot better when we arent here than if we are upstairs. What I did was in the time leading up to me going back to work (I took 2 weeks off when we got her) was to build up the crate time. First time I left her i literally stood round the side of the house had a smoke then went back in then built it up to 15 mins then half and hour etc etc. We give her a Kong in her crate and she is fine Razz Its the most difficult thing I have ever done leaving her that first day but she was fine!!!! I think we are doing them a favour by teaching them to be independant and have some alone time we are preparing our pups for life Razz OH as I am super neurotic I also videod uby the first time we left her to see what she did and yep curled straight up in her crate and went to sleep Wink
